ASU Student Found Dead in Vehicle in Boone on Saturday, No Info To Indicate Foul Play

On Saturday, October 29, 2016, at approximately 1:15 PM, Boone Police, Fire, and Watauga Medics responded to a parking lot on Tracy Circle near the intersection of Mac Street for a reported deceased individual. A 21-year-old female was found deceased inside a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim has been identified as:

Savannah Taylor Karten, 21, of Glen Allen, Va.

Karten was a student at Appalachian State University. Although Boone Police are considering all possibilities, at this time there is no information to indicate foul play. The investigation is continuing.

A young woman was found dead in a vehicle from a gunshot wound on Saturday afternoon in Boone.

Emergency personnel were dispatched to the parking lot of Tracy Circle at about 1 p.m., Boone Police Capt. Andy Le Beau confirmed.

“Police are still investigating and said it is too early to make a determination as to whether the manner of death was accidental, suicidal or homicidal. Police believe the incident occurred overnight, as the victim was last seen on Friday, Oct. 28. Police have requested that a medical examiner perform a forensic autopsy,” according to the Watauga Democrat.

The woman is believed to be a college student at App State.
