Jan. 25, 2013. Blowing Rock’s 15 annual WinterFest is in full swing and our rotating image shows you some of the highlights so far. Listed as one of Our State Magazine’s primary winter events in Western North Carolina, the annual WinterFest is four days of family-friendly fun that incorporates everything from great chili to leaping into an icy lake in silly costumes for a good cause.
In our first photo in the rotation, an image from the wildly popular (and sold out) WinterFeast on Thursday night at Timberlake’s Restaurant at Chetola Resort. Participating restaurants included: Timberlake’s Restaurant at Chetola Resort, Canyons, Rowland’s at Westglow, The Table at Crestwood, Best Cellar, The Laurel Room at the Green Park Inn, Meadowbrook Inn, Foggy Rock, Six Pence, Woodland’s,Bistro Roca, Stick Boy Bread Company, Bald Guy Brew and MK’s Southern Cooking.
Next is a shot of the U.S. Army Special Forces Ice Carving Team, who have been working away on a special ice bar for Green Park Inn. The ice bar the team is carving is being created from 14 massive blocks of ice that are 40 inches tall, 10 inches thick and 20 inches wide. The bar will be ready for use this evening and the team will be on hand on both Friday and Saturday evenings to meet with customers and discuss their craft.
See the guy getting Chetola Lake ready for the annual Polar Plunge? That’s Mike Nathan. He has been the resident ice-buster for the past seven years. He told High Country Press this morning that in the past a cinder block had to be used, but for now a brick has been doing the job.
In our last photo, you see an image of the first ever WinterFashions fashion show and luncheon, held this morning at Timberlake’s Restaurant. The newest winter and spring fashions were featured from the area’s top retail stores, including Doncaster, Monkees, JW Tweeds, Sister Act, TazMaRaz, Celeste’s, The Fig Leaf, Couture by Finley House and Almost Rodeo Drive.
WinterFest continues this evening and throughout the weekend, and it is jam-packed with a wide array of events that everyone can enjoy. For a complete schedule of events, visit blowingrockwinterfest.com.
