The High Country Chapter of Military Officers Association of America is co-sponsoring the 11th annual Veterans’ Day Ceremony at the Boone Mall on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 10:30 a.m. Each year about 400 people attend the ceremony, including many who served in the military dating back to World War II.
Other sponsors include the Boone Mall and the Watauga Community Band. The latter will play a medley of patriotic music to kick off the ceremony at 10:30 a.m., and the program will officially begin at 11 a.m.
The Watauga High School Marine Corps JROTC will post the colors and that will be followed the Pledge of Allegiance, the National Anthem and a special program honoring military veterans.
“The event is an opportunity to honor our veterans for what they have done for this great nation in protecting our freedoms and to recognize the families of our uniformed personnel who have also sacrificed over the years,” HCCMOAA President Fred Schmitt said.
The HCCMOAA is still raising proceeds for the Watauga County Veterans Memorial, which is going to built in downtown Boone next summer. Local sculptor Suzie Hallier is designing and building the project. For more info on the plans, click here.

DBDA Partner W/ HCCMOAA To Raise Funds for Memorial Nov. 9-11
The DBDA has partnered with the High Country chapter of the Military Officers Assocation of America (MOAA) to support their efforts to raise money for the first Veterans memorial to be erected in Watauga County. You can participate by donating a portion of your proceeds on Nov. 9-11.
A representative from the MOAA will be visiting your business on Friday, Nov. 3 to answer any questions you might have about the program, the memorial, or how to make your donation. They will also provide a flyer for your window to show that you are participating in the project. The Chamber of Commerce is also promoting the fundraiser, and the Alumni Association at ASU is also including a blurb about the fundraiser in their newsletter going out prior to the Georgia
Southern Game. The theme for the Georgia Southern game is “Hero’s Day”, and veterans will be recognized during the game.
