The event is a way to celebrate a successful first year by providing customers with refreshments and a bevy of special deals. As yellow is the offic al color of first anniversaries, a sale will run throughout the weekend, providing a 50 percent discount on all items marked with a yellow dot and a 10 percent discount on any item that contains the color yellow.

The celebration also serves as the public introduction of Ethan Flynn, the new NC Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA and project manager for Welcome Home Thriftique. Flynn was accepted as an AmeriCorps VISTA and began his role in August of this year, replacing Brittany Johnson, who left to pursue graduate studies in London.

“We’re excited to be able to celebrate our first successful year in Boone. Welcome Home Thriftique will continue to provide an upscale retail experience with a purpose,” states Flynn. “Our one year anniversary is a chance to show our appreciation to the community for supporting the important services that the Hospitality House provides and to thank our loyal customers for helping us reach this milestone.”

Welcome Home Thriftique, a four-year collaboration project between Hospitality House, Appalachian State University’s ACT (Appalachian and the Community Together) program, North Carolina Campus Compact and AmeriCorps has been open since July 25, 2014. All items sold in the store have been donated by the community and 100% of profits go to support the men, women and children of Hospitality House. Merchandised items include art, furniture, antiques, collectibles, home goods, décor and name brand clothing.

Welcome Home Thriftique, while being an important financial resource for Hospitality House, also serves as home to Foundation for Success, a job skills training curriculum where clients of the Hospitality House participate in a 6 week course that provides essential knowledge about moving forward in life, job and career.

Additionally, local artists and entrepreneurs have a unique opportunity to get involved and give back through Miss Trish’s Community Spotlight. Named in memory of Hospitality House volunteer and supporter Trish Burkhart, this component seeks local artists and entrepreneurs who are willing to donate a few items to be featured on a spotlight table for a month. The items will be advertised on social media and displayed on the sales floor! Participants will also have the opportunity sell their items every Saturday in front of the store.

Welcome Home Thriftique is located at 182 Boone Heights Dr. Store hours are Monday-Friday 11 a.m. -6 p.m. and Saturday 10am-4pm.
