Weekly ‘Brief Sheet’ From Blowing Rock Police Department: Extra Holiday Traffic, More Accidents

July 10, 2013. Courtesy of  the Blowing Rock Police Department, here is the weekly “Brief Sheet,” compiled by Capt. Aaron Miller on Tuesday, July 9.

The holiday week came and went with few problems. Extra holiday traffic did contribute to a higher number of traffic accidents.

Five traffic accidents were reported last week. A backing accident in the Country Club parking lot was reported on 7/1/13. That accident resulted in minor damage.

An accident with injuries was reported on Valley Blvd and New River Lakes Drive. Officers report that a 1997 Buick driven by Jessica Christine Craig, 18, of Lenoir pulled out in front of a 1997 Subaru driven by Elizabeth Denna Coffey, 21, of Blowing Rock. Blowing Rock Fire and Rescue respond to the scene. The drivers were checked for injuries but all occupants refused further medical treatment. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

 On 7/3/13 an accident was reported on Valley Blvd at the Little Springs Road. According to the report a 2002 Honda driven by Fairy Hodges Young, 82 of Blowing Rock pulled off of Little Springs in front of a 2009 Subaru driven by Matthew Colson Alexander, 28, of Todd NC. No injuries were reported and damages were estimated at $5000.

On 7/5/13 officers investigated a rear end collision on Valley Blvd at Westview Drive. According to the report a postal service vehicle driven by Zane Bruce Stilwell of Hickory failed to reduce speed and struck a Volkswagen driven by Carl Samuel Houser of Vale NC. No injuries were reported and damages were estimated at $2,700.  

A hit and run accident was reported in the parking lot of Woodlands BBQ on 7/6/13. David Carroll Miller of Hickory reported that his vehicle was damaged by another vehicle while parked in the parking lot. Damage to Miller’s vehicle was estimated at $1000. The incident is currently under investigation.

Michael Lee Jackson, 44, of Charlotte was arrested on 7/5/13 following a traffic stop on Valley Blvd. Jackson was arrested on outstanding warrants from Gaston County for driving while license revoked and no operator’s license. Jackson was held at the Watauga County Jail on a $750 secured bond.

Seven citations were issued last week. Charges include driving while license revoked, no operator’s license, no insurance, expired registration and speeding.
