June 5, 2013. Courtesy of  the Blowing Rock Police Department, here is the weekly “Brief Sheet,” compiled by Capt. Aaron Miller on Tuesday, June 4.

brpdpatchBlowing Rock Police Department recently received recognition as a Permanent Child Passenger Safety Seat Checking Station. Permanent Checking Stations are locations where parents, grandparents and other caregivers can get help with their child’s safety seat. Caregivers can get information on laws and best practice advice governing child safety seats, help installing child safety seats or just inspecting a seat to insure that the seat is properly installed. Approval for Checking Stations is given through the North Carolina Buckle Up Program and Safe Kids Worldwide.

Currently Blowing Rock Police has three Child Passenger Safety Technicians. Officers Deyton Turpin and Jordan Byland recently completed the 32 hour course to receive their certification. Blowing Rock Police CPS Technician will be assisting parents and caregivers by appointment at the Police Department. If you need assistance with the installation of a seat please call our office at 295-5212 to schedule a time to meet with a technician.

The Shiners Parade last Saturday kicked off a busy season of special events. There are lots of events planned in Blowing Rock over the upcoming weeks. In addition to the parade this past week end, officers are in preparation for a memorial run, emergency fest, Blood Sweat and Gears bicycle race and the fourth of July parade which is only a few weeks away.

Last week’s reports include a larceny from a residence, a harassing phone call report and one minor traffic accident in the parking lot at the swimming pool.

Five citations were issued last week. Charges include no operator’s license, expired registrations and no seat belt.
