Concert and Fireworks in Newland — Friday

Valle Crucis Community Park

Join the Newland Business Association for the season finale of its summer concert series from 6-9 p.m. at the Riverwalk Park and Bandshell just below the Lowe’s Foods parking lot. This free concert is open to the public and will feature the country rock sounds of The Road Tripp Band. End the night with a fantastic fireworks display! Click here for more details.

Auction to Support Valle Crucis Park — Saturday Morning

Got plans for Saturday morning breakfast? Make your way to the Apple Barn at Valle Crucis Conference Center at 8:30 a.m. for the annual fundraising auction to support the Valle Crucis Community Park. Join the park family for breakfast at just $8 per person and a viewing of the auction items first thing in the morning, followed immediately by bidding at 9 a.m. sharp. The auction serves as the primary annual fundraiser for the park. Proceeds from Saturday’s event will provide up to 15-20 percent of its annual operating budget, the remainder of which is provided by out-of-pocket donations from the community.

Appalachian Rollergirls Double Header — Saturday

The roller derby bouts begin on Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Holmes Convocation Center on the campus of ASU. You don’t want to miss the adrenaline-pumping excitement as these tougher-than-nails female athletes get rockin’ and rollin’. Click here to learn more.

Jewelry Trunk Show at Carlton Gallery — Saturday

Join Carlton Gallery in the Grandfather Community for a special women’s event from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22. This jewelry trunk show, boutique day and afternoon with tea will feature jewelry designer Ran Armstrong as a guest. This event will be held in conjunction with the gallery’s ongoing 33rd annual Mid-Summer Group Exhibition, “From a Textural Point of View,” which features work from Andrew Braitman and Toni Carlton through and Sept. 20. Redleg Husky and The Honey Chasers at Murphy’s — Saturday

The fun begins at 9 p.m. as the Asheville-based Americana/roots trio Redleg Husky shares the stage with the bluegrass and mountain music up-and-comers of Tennessee’s The Honey Chasers. The show will be held with a $5 cover at Murphy’s in downtown Boone. Click here for more information.

Tour de Art — Saturday

This organized celebration of local artists takes place on the fourth Saturday of every month through November, providing a network of participating galleries for local art enthusiasts to enjoy. Howard Street Exchange 2014

Howard Street Exchange — Sunday

The Boone Community Network will host its annual Howard Street Exchange street festival from 1-6 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. The west block of Howard Street will be closed and more than 50 vendors will line the streets. A main stage will host live music from the parking lot at Howard and Water streets and the festival will center around its annual Plein Air Paint-Off at 182 Howard St. where entries from participating local artists will be on display and for sale. Southeastern Gravity Series at Beech Mountain — All Weekend
