Fly Fishing Film Tour at App State — Friday
The event is brought to you by the ASU Fly Fishing Club, the Foscoe Fishing Company and Appalachian Mountain Brewery. The inaugural Fly Fishing Film Tour event, also known as F3T, will be hosted in the High Country on Friday. The film festival is aims to showcase the area’s wonderful cold water fishing culture and invite guests to join fly guides and shops, cold water conservation nonprofits, fly fishing enthusiasts and artists engaged in the fishing genre for a one night celebration of all things fly fishing.
The film tour will be held at the Schaefer Center on campus at Appalachian State University on Friday. Doors open at 5 p.m. F3T films will be shown from 7-9:15 p.m. with 15-minute intermission halfway through the two hours of combined films. Tickets are $10 each.
Friends Day at Mast General Store — Saturday
Five Mast General Stores (Asheville, Boone, Hendersonville, and the Valle Crucis Main Store & Annex) will donate 10 percent of sales to the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation as part of their annual Friends’ Day.

A full day of games, music and fun awaits families at the 12th annual Grandfather Mountain Kidfest on Saturday, Sept. 12.

The annual event celebrates the nature and culture of the North Carolina mountains, from its animals and weather to its music and stories. All activities are included with park admission.

NAACP and Law Enforcement Food Drive Begins — Saturday
The local NAACP branch and local law enforcement are joining together for an end-of-summer food drive to benefit the food programs at Hospitality House. The first community ingathering of non-perishable food and funds will be held in front of the Food Lion grocery in Boone (Hwy 321, next to Michael’s) on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 2 – 5 p.m. There will be two additional ingatherings on Saturdays, Sept. 19 and 26 (locations to be announced).
