Weekend Roundup: Film, Music, History and More in the High Country, Sept. 25-27

Fall is in full swing in the High Country! The weather might be a little rainy, but there’s still plenty of ways for you to enjoy the mountains this weekend. Film, music, history and more are slated for you this Sept. 25-27.

REEL ROCK Film Tour at LMC — Friday

Lees-McRae College Outdoor Programs is excited to host a showing of the 10th annual REEL ROCK Film Tour on Friday, Sept. 25. An opening reception complete with information booths will be held beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Evans Auditorium in the Cannon Student Center at Lees-McRae College. Free Concert with Jeff Little Trio at Heritage Hall — Saturday

After a decade of bringing live music to the High Country as a nonprofit organization, Mountain City’s Heritage Hall Theatre now invites you to join its 10th anniversary celebration — a free performance by the Jeff Little Trio on Sept. 26. The Jeff Little Trio is a local group featuring piano, guitar and bass. The trio is known for playing a wide range of styles including jazz, southern Louisiana and bluegrass. The band members include Jeff Little, Steve Lewis and Josh Scott. Heritage Hall is located at 211 N. Church St. in Mountain City, Tennessee. Carolina Ramble and Reunion — Saturday

The second annual Carolina Ramble & Reunion — a day of music, family, fall weather, delicious food, camping and more — takes place Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Brayshaw farm in western Watauga County. Gates open at 10:30 a.m., and music lasts from noon to 10 p.m. The lineup includes Possum Jenkins, Hilltop Riot, The Menders, The Worthless Son-in-Laws, Soul Benefactor, Molly McGinn, Spice Creek Ramblers, Through the Hills, and more. David Holt at the Jones House — Sunday

David Holt visits the High Country often, though it is usually on your television screen, public radio station, or at Tweetsie Railroad with his band, The Lightning Bolts.  This Sunday, Holt will return to Boone to give two house concert performances at the Jones House, in addition to displaying an exhibit of his photography. For more than four decades, Holt has continued to learn musical and folk arts from tradition bearers all over the country.  He has performed and recorded with many of his mentors, including Doc Watson, Grandpa Jones, Bill Monroe, Earl Scruggs, Roy Acuff, and Chet Atkins. David Holt will give performances at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Jones House, on Sunday, Sept. 27. For reservations or more information about the Jones House Fall Indoor Concerts series, including a complete schedule of performances, please visit www.joneshouse.org or call 828.268.6280.

Celebration of the Restored 1927 Fire Truck in Blowing Rock — Sunday

Want to see history brought to life? Here’s your chance to see the town of Blowing Rock’s first fire truck, which has been completely restored and is now ready for you to enjoy.

The Blowing Rock historical society has teamed up with the town, the Blowing Rock Art and History Museum and the local fire department to host a special unveiling event at Memorial Park on Sunday. The fun will begin at 4 p.m. and will feature refreshments, fire hats for the kids, a special presentation of the truck’s history, music from the Watauga Community Band and more.

 

Autumnfest at Mountain Pathways — Sunday

Mountain Pathways Montessori School hosts Autumnfest on Sunday, September 27th from noon to 4 p.m. Admission to the festival is free. Mountain Pathways is located at 453 Howards Creek Road in Boone, NC. For more information, please contact 828.262.5787 or mpathways@gmail.com. The festival will have activities for all ages including inflatables, hayride, games, pony rides, cakewalks, plus bbq and other tasty treats. If interested, teachers, parents and students will be at the festival to answer questions about attending the school. Autumnfest is an annual event to support the educational efforts of this non-profit school.
