In an effort to build further connections between current members and other women in the area, Watauga Women in Leadership will host its 2016 kick-off as a mixer to build community relationships. The organization is dedicated to networking local women leaders in Watauga County.
WWIL will host the event 5-7:30 p.m. at the Blowing Rock Art and History Museum on Feb. 11. Team building exercises and games will be held to strengthen the group and create new connections.
Casa Rustica will cater the event, and beverages will be provided by The Country Vinter and Lost Province Brewing. Admission to the event is open to all women in the county and costs $5, which and can either be paid online here or by calling the Boone Chamber Director of Operations Barbara Armstrong 828-264-2225.
“This is event is extremely important. We have so many powerful women in leadership roles we can learn and draw from and help lift up new people in the community to be successful,” Armstrong said.
Armstrong said she wants the event to be more personal so everyone can also build connections on common interests.
Since forming over a year ago, WWIL has snowballed into an organization focused on networking, hosting quarterly events for its members. Membership requires no dues or fees, and does not exclude any woman in the community.
“Women love it because there’s nothing else like it,” Armstrong said. “I’m very grateful to App State Chancellor Sheri Everts for helping to start this group. I hear nothing but wonderful things from people about it.”
WWIL will also host a Round Robin event in the spring, a cruise out of Charleston, South Carolina in August/September, and a dinner with a keynote speaker in the fall.
