Watauga Sheriff’s Office Arrests Boone Woman, Charges Her With Misappropriating $166K of Church Funds

Feb. 12, 2013. Regarding an arrest a few weeks ago – on Nov. 21, 2011, Watauga County Sheriff’s Office received an initial report of possible misappropriation of funds from the Deerfield United Methodist Church located at 1184 Deerfield Road in Boone.

This initial report alleged that approximately $118,000.00 had been misused by an employee of the church, beginning in late 2008. 

Sheriff Hagaman reported that the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Unit conducted an investigation into the incident. As a result of the investigation the following individual was charged and arrested.

Treva J. Jones, W/F, DOB: 12-22-1968, a resident of 4090 Jakes Mountain Road, Boone, NC was charged with one count of Felony Embezzlement on December 21, 2011. Treva J. Jones was arrested on December 22, 2011 and given a $25,000.00 secured bond. This charge is still pending in Watauga County Superior Court. 

On January 3, 2013, Watauga County Sheriff’s Office received an additional report of possible misappropriation of funds from Deerfield United Methodist Church.  The report alleged that approximately $48,000.00 had been misused by a former employee of the church.

Sheriff Hagaman reported that the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Unit conducted an investigation to the incident. As a result of the investigation the following individual was charged and arrested.

Treva J. Jones, W/F, DOB: 12-22-1968, a resident of 4090 Jakes Mountain Road in Boone was charged with six counts of Felony Obtaining Property by False Pretense, six counts of Felony Forgery and six counts of Felony Uttering a Forged Instrument. Treva J. Jones was arrested on February 11, 2013, and given a $25,000.00 secured bond with a court date of March 26, 2013.
