Tracy Markland was recognized as the Exceptional Children Program Teacher of Excellence for 2016-17; EC Program Director Dr. Michael Marcela (left) presented her to the Board.

Tracy Markland was recognized as the Exceptional Children Program Teacher of Excellence for 2016-17; EC Program Director Dr. Michael Marcela (on left in photo) presented her to the Board. Marcela praised Markland as “a true teacher leader at Watauga High School and in our district.  She is deeply involved in many of our EC Department initiatives, including expanding the Behavior Support program at the high school, helping to increase our graduation rate through our focus on individual students, and serving on several EC Department Committees. She has played an integral role in improving our EC services and she is an outstanding member of our team.”

Kyle Hollars (student at left) and Riley Underwood (student on right) were honored with Certificates of Recognition for their great success in Beta Club competition.

Kyle Hollars (student at left) and Riley Underwood (student on right) were honored with Certificates of Recognition for their great success in Beta Club competition.  Kyle won first place in the state and third place nationally in social studies.  Riley won first place in the state and fourth place nationally in woodworking. With Kyle and Riley are Mabel School Counselor Christina Welch and Superintendent Dr. Scott Elliott.  Welch praised both students for their hard work and their success, saying “we are super proud of them.”

015-16 NC Teacher of the Year Keana Triplett was honored by the NC Association of Educators (NCAE) with the Teaching Excellence Award, presented to her by NCAE President Mark Jewell (left).

2015-16 NC Teacher of the Year Keana Triplett was honored by the NC Association of Educators (NCAE) with the Teaching Excellence Award, presented to her by NCAE President Mark Jewell (left). Superintendent Dr. Scott Elliott is on the right.  Jewell described Triplett as “a colleague who models excellence in leadership, and a love for students, her community, and teaching…she represents the best of our profession and NCAE.” Triplett taught English in Ashe County last year and now teaches English at Watauga High School.
