Fonseca and Griffin
Interim WCS Supt. David Fonseca presents retiring Green Valley Principal Phillip Griffin with a plaque for his service in Watauga County Schools.

June 10, 2014. Green Valley School Principal Phillip Griffin was recognized by the Watauga County Board of Education last night for his 11 years of service as principal at Green Valley. Griffin is retiring effective July 1.

Interim Superintendent Dr. David Fonseca praised Griffin for his service in remarks to the school board and thanked him for the educational leadership he has provided at Green Valley.  Fonseca said that Griffin was known and respected for many qualities, including a willingness to go to extraordinary lengths to meet the needs of students and families outside the school day and beyond the school walls.
Griffin thanked the Board for the opportunity to serve as principal, saying that “coming to Watauga County is one of the best things that ever happened to me.”  He also expressed his gratitude for the teachers and other school personnel at Green Valley for the great work they do in serving students.  He went on to complement the families and community of Green Valley.
“The way in which they support that school is just amazing and it is a model for everyone else,” Griffin said.
Griffin will be succeeded as Green Valley principal by Philip Norman, currently an assistant principal at Hardin Park School.
