Watauga Register of Deeds Kicks Off Veterans Discount ID Program on Nov. 10

Watauga County Register of Deeds, Amy J. Shook and Watauga County Veteran Services Officer, April Pope are initiating a “Thank You For Your Service” Veterans Discount Program.   Local businesses are participating by offering Veterans special discounts or incentives as a way to say “thank you” for serving! Veterans will receive the discount when they present their “Thank You For Your Service” discount card issued specifically to them. A list of participating businesses will be updated regularly on the Register of Deeds and Veteran Services websites or a paper copy may be requested.

If you are interested in obtaining a “Thank You For Your Service” Veteran’s Discount Card, please bring your DD214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) and a current driver’s license or other state-issued photo ID to the Vital Records Division of the Watauga County Register of Deeds office between 8:00AM-4:30PM Monday – Friday to be recorded. Veterans who have already had their DD214 recorded in Watauga County just need to bring their current driver’s license or other photo ID and we will issue the discount card.

We will begin issuing the discount cards on Nov. 10.

We will be having a special kick-off event on Tuesday, Nov. 10 and would like to honor ALL of our Veterans on this day! We will have refreshments throughout the day and guest speakers at 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

Watauga Register of Deeds, Veterans Services Officer Initiate Veterans Discount Program

Sept. 29, 2015. One of the responsibilities of the Register of Deeds office is to record Veterans’ DD214 – Military Discharge papers in Watauga County. Amy Shook, Watauga County Register of Deeds and April Pope, Watauga County Veterans Services Officer are teaming up to initiate a new program to encourage Veterans to record their DD214.

Watauga_county_NC_sealOur plan is to issue them a Veterans “Thank You For Your Service” Card that makes them eligible to receive discounts or incentives from participating Watauga County businesses when they present their card. We are asking Watauga County businesses to consider participating in this program as a means of showing continued support and appreciation for our local Veterans. We certainly understand that some businesses already offer military discounts and we thank you very much for showing your appreciation.

Participating businesses will be listed on the Watauga County Register of Deeds website at www.wataugacounty.org . All Veterans who come into our office will be given a current listing of those businesses who have agreed to participate in the program. Upon issuance, the Veteran will be told that they must show the Veterans “Thank You For Your Service” Card in order to receive the discount or incentive.

Please consider adding your business to our list by completing the enclosed form and returning it to us by mail: Amy J. Shook, Watauga County Register of Deeds, 842 W. King Street, Suite 9, Boone, NC 28607 or email to: amy.shook@watgov.org. We will send you a sign to display in your business (if you choose to) showing our Veterans and your customers that you participate in our program that supports Veterans.

As a business, you advertise in various ways; why not let us help you advertise with our website and distribution lists? You will be showing our residents, but most importantly our Veterans, that you appreciate their service to our Country. A discount or incentive for the Veteran is all we are asking from you. We will advertise your business FREE of CHARGE.

“Thank You For Your Service” is scheduled to begin on Nov. 11, 2015, with a kickoff event scheduled for Nov. 10.

Thank you in advance for your support of our Veterans!
