Watauga Humane Society Hosts North Shore Animal League America Tour for Life Sunday, April 13

April 7, 2014. On Sunday, April 13 at Walmart in Boone, the Watauga Humane Society will host the North Shore Animal League America’s Tour of Life from 1-4 p.m. Called the “world’s largest adoption event,” Tour for Life is hours of fun for any animal lover.

Animal shelters and rescue organizations from across the region will be present to find forever homes for animals and raise money for animal welfare. This is a great chance to find your new best buddy and support an important cause. 

In partnership with Purina, Tour for Life is the largest national adoption initiative aimed at reinforcing the advantages and importance of shelter pet adoptions. 

This year’s participating shelters and rescue organizations include The Ashe Humane Society, the Avery County Humane Society, Caldwell Animal Rescue, Ziggy’s Second Chance Network, Unicoi County Animal Shelter, Watauga Humane Society, St. Francis of Assisi Bully Breed Rescue, Merit Pit Bulls Foundation of Lenoir, Second Chance Dogs of Ashe, Partners! Canines, Happy Tails Rescue of West Jefferson and the Humane Society of Wilkes. 

In addition to the adoptions, the event also serves as a fair with information about shelter pets, behavioral education, and special services. Workshops and events include the low-cost rabies clinic hosted by Animal Hospital of Boone, low-cost toenail trim by Queeny’s Pet Palace, and get your furry friend microchipped for just $25 thanks to Mast Mobile Pet Care and Acupuncture and stop by the Red Cross Pet First Aid booth for tips for animal emergencies. 

Participating pet services include Animal Hospital of Boone, Woof Pack Pet Services, Mast Mobile, Animal Emergency and Pet Care Clinic, Queeny’s Pet Palace, Pet Style Salon and Fetching Ridge Pet Hotel, Mountain Dog and Friends, Alex West’s Pet Sitting, Pawblems Solved Dog Training, Groomingdales and the Blue Ridge Chapter of the American Red Cross. 

Entertainment for the day will include a K-9 demonstration by the Boone Police Department, face painting by Patrick Richardson, music by Edward Main and Sailor’s Warning, Woof Pack training demo by Melissa MacKinnon, Corn Hole for the Kids with Patrick Richardson and Hutch Husky and Chick-fil-a’s Moo Cow. Refreshments are courtesy of Walmart and Children’s Miracle Network and Girl Scout Troop 289, with goody bags and giveaways by Pet Supplies Plus and Walmart.
