June 2, 2014. On Saturday, June 14 at 10 a.m., hundreds of students from Watauga High School will cross the stage at the Holmes Convocation Center at Appalachian State University in celebration of their graduation from High School.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony will be valedictorian Sidney Wiswell and salutatorian Christopher Allen. The guest speaker at the event will be last year’s Teacher of the Year Clay Anderson.
No tickets are required to attend graduation ceremonies. The doors to the Holmes Convocation Center officially open at 9:15 a.m. prior to the start of the graduation ceremony at 10 a.m.
Guests should expect the ceremony to last approximately two hours, said Senior Counselor Candis Walker.
In addition to the graduation ceremony on June 14, the Capping Ceremony and School Based Awards will take place on Tuesday, June 3 at Lentz/Eggers Gym at 4:30 p.m. The Capping Ceremony marks the beginning of the graduation season. Outstanding seniors dressed in their ceremonial attire will be recognized by faculty and staff from all areas and departments in the School-Based Awards Program following the Capping Ceremony.
A Baccalaureate/Blessing Service will be held on Sunday, June 8 at 5 p.m. at Boone United Methodist Church. Senior Volunteers, under the supervision of Tracy Lentz-Markland, faculty advisor of the Life Club will host the voluntary spiritual event for the class of 2014. All members of the Class of 2014 are invited to attend with their parents and friends.
