Aug. 23, 2012. Nationally renowned retired Lt. Gen. William G. “Jerry” Boykin presents “Freedom, Family & Faith” on Saturday, Aug. 25, beginning at 9:30 a.m., at Watauga High School. The event is presented by Boykin’s Fayetteville-based Kingdom Warriors Ministries and sponsored by the Mount Vernon Baptist Church of Boone.

“Be prepared for a life-changing presentation by a commander of men, a father, a grandfather and a servant of God,” reads the event poster.

This is a one-day-only event and there is no cost for admission.

A 36-year member of the military, Boykin was one of the original members of the United States Army’s Delta Force. He later went on to command the Green Berets and even served with the Central Intelligence Agency.

“God led me into the Delta Force … And He said to me, ‘This is where you ought to be,'” said Boykin in a 2003 Washington Post article.

Boykin is the author of “Never Surrender: A Soldier’s Journey to the Crossroads of Faith and Freedom,” and today is an ordained minister who travels the country “spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ and encouraging Christians to become Warriors in God’s Kingdom,” reads the Kingdom Warrior Ministries website.
