Watauga Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad Responds To Lady Slipper Lane, Scene of Homemade Explosive Device

June 13, 2013. While performing routine fire hydrant maintenance, personnel with the Boone Fire Department observed a suspicious object lying near a fire hydrant on Lady Slipper Lane on Tuesday afternoon. 

Boone police and fire departments and the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad responded to the scene and determined that the object was a homemade explosive device. 

The device was rendered safe and was turned over to the bomb squad for disposal. The investigation into this incident continues.

No other details were released, and Sgt. Shane Robbins, public information officer for the Boone Police Department, wasn’t available for comment on Thursday afternoon for more information.
