Watauga County Public Library, Western Watauga Library to Begin Sumer Reading Program June 1

The Watauga County Public Library and the Western Watauga Library are perfect places for children and families to become empowered to build a better world! Build a better world locally and create a positive change by bringing a canned good (peanut butter, jelly, and cereal) for the Health and Hunger Coalition or a food item for your favorite pet (dog or cat) for the Watauga Humane Society when you sign up for summer reading at Watauga County Public Library. Just as skyscrapers are built to great heights, one brick at a time, participants will find themselves reaching for the stars through hands-on learning experiences this summer. Children who join the summer library program keep their minds active and enter school in the fall ready to learn and ready to succeed. So, go forth and build a better world.

The 2017 Summer Reading Program “Build a Better World” is open to young people, preschool through young adult, with programs, prize drawings, story times, and more. Registration begins on June 1st. On August 21, 2017, the United States will be treated to the first total eclipse of the Sun visible in the country in almost 40 years. Because the 2017 total eclipse will be visible only in the United States, it is being called the “All American Total Solar Eclipse”!

Storytelling with Science: New for 2017, “Pirates”. When we write a new show, we first come up with a list of great experiments. With flash paper, a water cannon, and an exploding bottle, it didn’t take us long to realize that these experiments were perfect for a story about pirates! The Summer Reading theme for the libraries is “building”, so this fun nautical adventure is about a shipwrecked crew of pirates who have to work together to build a new ship before all hope is lost… at sea!

Game Truck: For Tweens and Teens! Have a blast with our mobile game theater!                             Please sign up!
