Edward Council Harmon, age 66, of Peoria Road, Sugar Grove, passed away Sunday afternoon, September 22, 2013 at Watauga Medical Center.

Born October 19, 1946, he was a son of the late Danville and Bina Cornett Harmon. Edward was a retired carpenter and a member of Green Valley Baptist Church. 

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Judy Wiseman Harmon, two sons; Tony Harmon and wife Kim of Apex, and Terry Harmon and wife Ruthie of Banner Elk, two sisters; Helen Warren and husband Roy and Betty Presnell and husband Alvin all of Sugar Grove, two brothers; Billy Harmon and wife Shelby and Tommy Harmon and wife Linda of Sugar Grove, one granddaughter; Katelyn Harmon, four grandsons; Joshua Harmon and wife Stephanie, Hunter, Benjamin and Grayson Harmon, one great grandson, Jacob Harmon and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his one sister Ruth Rominger, one brother in law; Larry Rominger and two half brothers; Carson Cornett and Jimmy Watson. 

Graveside services for Mr. Edward Council Harmon will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 1 o’clock at the Green Valley Baptist Church Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Eric Cornett, Rev. Nancy Louise Hicks McGuire, age 85, of Mast Gap Road, Sugar Grove, passed away Monday morning at Glenbridge Health & Rehabilitation. Born November 16, 1927 in Watauga County she was a daughter of the late Calvin and Minnie Harmon McGuire.

She is survived by one son; Eugene McGuire and wife Elaine of Vilas, two daughters; Shirley Glenn and husband Hubert of Mountain City, and Frankie Bragg and husband Skip of Sugar Grove, three grandsons; Chad McGuire and wife Michelle, Jason McGuire and Dillon Bragg, one granddaughter; Nila Galgano and husband Jimmy, four great grandchildren; Caleb and Caitlyn McGuire and Isaiah and Elijah Galgano, two sisters; Mary “Lizzy” Presnell and Laura May Jones, one brother, Johnny Hicks and wife Bobby and one sister in law, Ruby Hicks all of Lenoir. 

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband; Richard McGuire, one brother; Charles Hicks and two sisters; Ruby Elliott and Alma Cable. 

Funeral services for Mrs. Nancy Louise Hicks McGuire will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. Mike Townsend, Rev. Jimmy Galgano and Rev. Ronnie Jones. Burial will follow in the St. Johns Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family in care of Austin & Barnes Funeral Home. 

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 o’clock until 7:30 at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home. At other times friends may call at the residence, 1194 Mast Gap Road, Sugar Grove, NC.

Virginia Patrick Driver, D. Sept. 22, 2013

Virginia Patrick Driver, age 62, of Zionville, passed away Sunday afternoon September 22, 2013 at Watauga Medical Center. Born September 17, 1951 in Wilkes County, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Stella Miller Patrick. 

She is survived by her brothers and sisters; Leroy Patrick of West Jefferson, Bobby Patrick of Sparta, Jerry Patrick of Crumpler, Floyd Patrick of Wilkesboro, Pansy Burgess of Jefferson, Shirley Ellison of Valdese and Nancy Ellison of Jefferson.

Miss Jewel Louise Watson, age 86, of Boone, died Saturday, September 21, 2013, at Blowing Rock Hospital.

Miss Watson is survived by two brothers, Linney Watson of Wilberton, Oklahoma and David Watson and friend Angie Greene of Boone.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, her father and mother, General Dixon Watson and Annie Greene Watson, two sisters, Ruby Watson and Ethel Thomas, and four brothers, Arnold, Russeau, Ottis, and Arthel L. “Doc” Watson.

Funeral services for Miss Jewel Watson will be conducted Monday morning, September 23, 2013, at 11:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 10:00 until 11:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Reverend Sherrell Welborn. Burial will follow in the Watson Family Cemetery

The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 o’clock, one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Russell L. Harmon, age 80, Sugar Grove, died Friday, September 20, 2013, at Glenbridge Health Care.

Mr. Harmon was born November 24, 1932 in Watauga County, a son of the late Ralph Graydon Harmon and Mary Moore Harmon. He was a retired farmer and a life long member of Antioch Baptist Church.

Mr. Harmon is survived by, two brothers, Howard Harmon and wife Doris, of Fletcher, NC, and Edgar Harmon of Sugar Grove, NC, five nieces, Marilyn Byrd and husband Marvin of Kernersville, NC, Ladonna Brawley and husband David of Charlotte, NC, Marcia Harmon of Fletcher, NC, Alicia Shope and husband Dale of Fairview, NC, Andrea Wilson of Asheville, NC, three great nieces, Meghan Woodlief and husband Byran of High Point, NC, Melissa Antaya and husband Mike of Durham, NC, Jami Byrd of Asheville, NC and three great nephews, Adam Brawley of Charlotte, NC, Matthew Duncan of Central, SC and John Wilson of Asheville, NC.

Funeral services for Mr. Russell L. Harmon will be conducted Monday afternoon, September 23, 2013, at 2:00 o’clock, at Antioch Baptist Church. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 1:00 until 2:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Reverend Daniel Lawrence. Burial will follow in the Cable Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Service.

Mr. Robert Julian “Bob” Poss, age 82, of Ivy Terrace Drive, Boone, entered heaven Friday morning, September 20, 2013 at Watauga Medical Center. Born January 3, 1931 in Alexandria, Virginia, he was a son of the late Charles and Virginia Allen Poss. Bob was a retired Supervisor of D.C. Transit. 
    
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Panetta Poss, four children, Robert “Bobby” Poss and wife Luanne of Asheville, Johnny Poss and wife Janine of Friendship, MD, Charles Poss and wife Denise of Florida, and Dawn Ward and husband David of Boone, eleven grandchildren, Michael Poss and wife Karen, Johnny Poss, Kyle Poss and wife Andrea, Clint Poss and wife Cory, Eric Poss, Tyler Poss, Joy Conklin and husband Perry, Jenny Ward, Julie Ward, Kelly Sides and husband Rob and Tiffani Barb and husband Kenny, twelve great grandchildren, and one sister, Mary Longo of Delaware.

Redgie is survived by two sons, Sean Combs and wife Ashley of Goshen, Ohio, and Jamie Combs, of Cincinnati, Ohio; two granddaughters, Savannah Combs and Ella Combs, both of Goshen; two grandsons, Hunter Combs and Gage Combs, both of Goshen, and four sisters, Helen Taylor of Middletown, Ohio, Lennis Combs of Mountain City, Tennessee, Irene Smith, and Mary Norman, both of Middletown.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Robert Paul Combs and Bonnie Love Combs, and one sister, Earlene.

Funeral services for Redgie Paul Combs will be conducted Saturday afternoon, September 21, 2013, at 2:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 1:00 until 2:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Reverend Eric Cornett. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park, in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon, from 1:00 until 2:00 o’clock, at the funeral home, prior to the service.
