Theodore Witherspoon “Ted” Petersen, 83, of Boone, passed away on September 30th, 2013. After a long illness with Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) disease, Ted died peacefully at home. He was born April 14th, 1930 in Philadelphia, PA, the only child of Theodore Otto Petersen and Elizabeth Witherspoon Petersen of Philadelphia, PA. Mr Petersen was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore O and Elizabeth Petersen.

Mr Petersen graduated from Morgan Preparatory School, Petersburg, TN, NJ College of Commerce, Texas A&M University SOARS, and UNC, Chapel Hill GRI program. Employed 20 years with Beneficial Corp. then owner of ERA General Realty Corp. for 20 yrs. Ted served as President of Avery-Watauga Board of Realtors and was REALTOR of the Year. He was a Veteran of the US Navy.

Mr Petersen is survived by wife, Lila, his sons, Ted V Petersen, of Texas and John W Petersen, Austin, TX.; three daughters, Theresa Stegman and husband Chip, Austin TX; Margaret Raeburn and husband Brant, Galveston, TX; Marianne White and husband Paul, Lake Charles, LA; seven grandchildren, Audrie Wells, Zachary Smith, Matthew Hartman, Megan Pierce, Elizabeth Smith, Jason Hartman, Caidin Pierce; five great grand children, Alissa, Adam, Emily Grace, John William and Banks.

A private service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Fern Gardens at Daniel Boone Native Gardens 584 Oaks St., Boone, NC, 28607.

Mrs. Juanita Holtsclaw Welch Wortman, age 92, of Sunny Hill Lane, Deep Gap, passed away Saturday afternoon September 28, 2013 at Deerfield Ridge Assisted Living. Born January 6, 1921 in Carter County Tennessee, she was a daughter of the late R. D. and Sallie Ferguson Holtsclaw. Juanita was a member of Gap Creek Baptist Church. She was formerly a short order cook at Stamey’s. 

She is survived by four children; Janice Paulette Robbins and husband Tommy of Deep Gap, Paul Oakley Welch, Jr., and wife Lisa of Deep Gap, James D. Welch and wife Jorene of Fleetwood and Jerry Lee Welch and wife Debra of Atlanta, GA, one sister; Tootsie Ward of Elizabethton, Tennessee, eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul Oakley Welch, Sr., her second husband J. C. Wortman, three grandchildren; Jammie Buran Welch, Tamara Dawn Welch, and Jerry Lee Welch, Jr., and eight brothers and sisters.

Archie Dean Dancy, D. Sept. 26, 2013

Mr. Archie Dean Dancy, 74 of Statesville, passed away Thursday, September 26, 2013 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. 

Mr. Dancy was born October 27, 1938 in Watauga County, NC and was the son of the late Archie Dancy and Madge Greer Dancy. He was a graduate of Cove Creek High School and Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte. On October 15, 1960 he was married to Glenda Mae Dishmon Dancy, who survives of the home. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Manufacturing Engineer for Clark Equipment for many years. He was a member of Landmark Church of God, where he served as a Greeter and Usher. He helped with the Food Ministry for over 10 years. He enjoyed gardening, bird watching, reading the newspaper and spending time with his grandsons. He also enjoyed coaching kids and watching his grandsons play sports. He was known as a caring person and always greeted you with a smile.

In addition to his wife of 52 years, he is survived by three sons, Scott Dancy (Lisa) of Sugar Grove, NC, Steven Dancy of Statesville, Jason Dancy of Statesville, one daughter, Cindy D. Deviney (Scott) of Statesville, four grandsons, Jacob and Luke Deviney, Landon and Dylan Dancy, two brothers, Bobby Dancy of Mountain City, TN, James Dancy (Dorothy) of Vilas, NC, one sister, Nancy Shore (Gordon) of Boone, NC and one uncle, Billy Greer (Joyce) of Charlotte.

Funeral services will be conducted 5:00 p.m. Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Landmark Church of God with Dr. Kenneth Hudson and Rev. Ben Black officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday at the church from 3:30-5:00 p.m. The burial will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Charlotte.

Ricardo Tscherpel, D. Sept. 26, 2013

Ricardo Tscherpel, age 61, of Pembroke Pines, Florida, passed away Thursday, September 26, 2013.

Mr. Tscherpel is survived by his wife Sarah, of the home; a daughter, Elizabeth Campbell and husband Jack, of Pembroke Pines, FL; one grandson, Jackson Campbell, of Pembroke Pines, FL; one granddaughter, Abigail Campbell, of Pembroke Pines, FL; his father, Frank Tscherpel, of Hollywood, FL; his mother-in-law, Ruby Havner, of Boone; sister-in-law, Susan Rooney, of Boone; and three brothers-in-law, Steve Havner, of Boone; Bruce Havner and wife Sherre of Boone; and Brian Havner and wife Janelle of Charlotte. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Ricardo Tscherpel will be held at a later date.
