James Coffey, D. May 15, 2014
Mr. James Stewart Coffey, age 62, of Todd, passed away Friday, May 15, 2014 at his home in Todd. We lost a great husband, father and friend and Heaven received a special angel.
He is survived by his wife Sylvia Coffey of the home, son Bill Coffey and wife Cindy of Creston, daughter, Bertha Coffey and special friend Morgan Moore of Boone, son Jerry Coffey and special friend Clay Petty, Jr. of Winston-Salem, son Arle Coffey and special friend Holly Mahala of Todd, daughter Jasmine Coffey, grandsons, James Miller, Dustin Coffey, and Adam Coffey, granddaughters, Ashley Miller and Kristen Coffey and numerous other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arlie and Belle Coffey, one brother, Jessie Coffey, one sister, Dora Coffey, his father in law, Charles Miller and a sister in law, Mary Alice Coffey and numerous others.
Funeral services for Mr. James Stewart Coffey will be conducted Sunday morning at 11 o’clock at Faith Baptist Church. Officiating will be Dr. Sonny Younce and Rev. Tommy Stephens. Burial will follow in the Charles Miller Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening at the residence, 4842 Meat Camp Road, Todd.

Katherine Watson Greene, D. May 13, 2014
Katherine Watson Greene, age 93, of Fleetwood, passed away Tuesday afternoon, May 13, 2014, at Watauga Medical Center in Boone.
Mrs. Greene was born August 20, 1920 in Watauga County, a daughter of the late Fred and Loretta Cook Watson. She was a homemaker and a member of Mount Paran Baptist Church.
Mrs. Greene is survived by three daughters, Loretta Cornejo and husband Rick of Fleetwood, Karen Lambert and husband Bruce of Crumpler, and Lavila Rash and husband Jerry of Fleetwood; three sons, Paul Frank Greene, Jr. and wife Glenda of Sugar Hill, Georgia, Don Greene and wife Janet of Bristol, Tennessee, and Brice Greene and wife Reta of Fleetwood; seven granddaughters, Michelle Mohalick and husband Michael of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Ramona Hamby and Luray Rominger and husband Kevin, all of Deep Gap, Jeri Cox and husband Brent of Fall Branch, Tennessee, Beverly Hamby of Deep Gap, Maria Kingsley and husband Jason of Fleetwood, and Michelle Rash of West Jefferson, and five grandsons, Paul Frank Greene, III and wife Margie of Brownsburg, Indiana, Donnie Greene of Bristol, Tennessee, Brice Kevin Greene and wife Heather and Bruce Wayne Lambert, II, all of Deep Gap, and Colby Scott Lambert and wife Lynn of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina. She is also survived by twenty-five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Frank Greene, Sr.; two great-grandsons, Scotty Wayne Lambert and Jensen Paul Kingsley; one sister, Mary Lee Cyphers, and two brothers, Don Watson and Barney Watson.
Funeral services for Katherine Watson Greene will be conducted Friday afternoon, May 16, 2014, at 12:00 o’clock, at Mount Paran Baptist Church. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 11:00 until 12:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Reverend Sherrill Wellborn, Reverend Reeves Jones, and Reverend Don Greene. Burial will follow in the Mount Paran Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday morning, from 11:00 until 12:00 o’clock, at the church, prior to the service.

Mary Mae Hicks, D. May 11, 2014
Mary Eva Mae Hicks, age 75, of 277 Harmon Road, Banner Elk, passed away Sunday morning, May 11, 2014 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem.
Ms. Harmon was born September 30, 1938, a daughter of the late Floyd and Dorsie Harmon Hicks. She was a homemaker.
Ms. Harmon is survived by one son, Lennie Hicks of the home; two brothers, Gordon Hicks and Ronda Hicks of Banner Elk, and one sister, Rosie Jean Williams and husband Dan of Banner Elk. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Bennie Hicks.
Funeral services for Mary Eva Mae Hicks will be conducted Tuesday morning, May 13, 2014, at 10:00 o’clock at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 9:00 until 10:00.

Mr. Jordon Adam Barker, age 41, passed away Friday, May 9th at the Carpenter Hospice, Burlington, Ontario, Canada, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He is survived by his wife, Holly Barker of Waterdown, Ontario, Canada; son Jackson Adam Barker, parents, Ruth and Gord Barker, sister Karin (Jay) Woods, father-in-law, Jim Higgins of Boone and mother-in-law, Jane (Gary) Sigmon of Boone, sister-in-law, Becky (Strother) Bullins of Westfield; nieces Abbey , Mackenzie and Caitlyn Woods, and nephew Sterling Bullins, and by a number of aunts, uncles and other relatives.
Memorial services for Jordon Adam Barker will be conducted Tuesday, afternoon, May 13th, at 5:00 p.m. at Kitching, Steepe & Ludwig Funeral Home, Waterdown, Ontario, Canada. Mae Guarneri, D. May 9, 2014
Mae Shore Guarneri, age 99, of Blowing Rock, passed away Friday afternoon, May 9, 2014, at Blowing Rock Rehab and Davant Extended Care in Blowing Rock.
Mrs. Guarneri was born April 25, 1915 in Watauga County, a daughter of the late Robert Shore, Sr. and Lester Hodges Shore. She was a retired medical secretary.
Mrs. Guarneri is survived by one brother, Robert H. Shore and wife Jannette of Blowing Rock, and one sister, Floy White of Marietta, Georgia. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Guarneri; three brothers, Hal Shore, Burmah Shore, and Jay Shore, and one sister, Belle Shore.
Funeral services for Mae Shore Guarneri will be conducted Sunday afternoon, May 11, 2014, at 2:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 1:30 until 2:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Donald G. Critcher. Entombment will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon, from 1:30 until 2:00 o’clock, at the funeral home, prior to the service.

‘Mama’ Scruggs, D. May 8, 2014
Dolline “Mama” Scruggs, age 92, of Boone, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2014, at Watauga Medical Center.
Mrs. Scruggs was born November 25, 1921 in Tampa, Florida, a daughter of the late Harold Fuller, Sr. and Marie Bishop Fuller. She was the Concessions Manager for Arena Roller Skating Rink in Boone for many years.
Mrs. Scruggs is survived by two daughters, Suzanne McCutchen and husband Barry of Weekiwachee, Florida and Bonnie Norris of Zionville; two sons, Mark Scruggs of Boone and Wayne Scruggs and wife Fredia of Hickory, and one brother, Harry Fuller, Jr. of Cocoa Beach, Florida. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Bruce Scruggs.
Funeral services for Dolline “Mama” Scruggs will be conducted Tuesday afternoon, May 13, 2014, at 1:00 o’clock, at Oak Grove Baptist Church. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 12:00 until 1:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Pastor Michael Gragg. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon, from 12:00 until 1:00 o’clock, at the church, prior to the service.

Celia Mae Storie Jones, D. May 7, 2014
Mrs. Celia Mae Storie Jones, age 93, of Taylor Road, Boone, passed away Wednesday morning, May 7, 2014 at Life Care Center of Banner Elk. Born August 24, 1920 in Washington County, Virginia she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Allie Victoria Lowrance Storie. Celia was a retired seamstress and a member of Shelter Rock Church.
She is survived by one sister, Pauline Rule of Madison, three sisters in law, Mabel Jones of Boone, Blanche Jones of Bessemer City, and Jean Mains of Tennessee, two brothers in law, Clifford Jones of Boone, Ralph “Red” Jones of Lenoir, and a number of nieces and nephews, including Gerald Storie and wife Lynn, of Foscoe. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Lee Henry Jones, five sisters, Faye, Frost, Francis, Goldie and Gaye and three brothers, Dale, Dillard and Don Storie.
Graveside services and burial for Mrs. Celia Mae Storie Jones will be conducted Friday morning at 11 o’clock at Ashelawn Memorial Park. Officiating will be Rev. David Icenhour. The family respectfully requests no food or flowers.
