Dr. Eris A. Dedmond (March 15, 1931 – July 8, 2014) 

Dr. Eris Arrowood Dedmond, age 83, of Howard Street, Boone, passed away Tuesday morning, July 8, 2014 at Watauga Medical Center.

Born in Rutherford County March 15, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Muriel Robbins Arrowood. Dr. Dedmond received her undergraduate degree from Western Carolina University. She obtained her Masters Degree and PhD from Florida State University. Dr. Dedmond taught in the education department Appalachian State University for a number of years.

She is survived by one son, Al Wilson and wife Becky of Monroe, two grandsons, Brian Wilson and wife Tamara of Cary, and Jonathan Wilson of Los Angeles, two great grandchildren, Alex and Aaron Wilson of Cary and one brother Fred M. Arrowood of Forest City. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Francis B. Dedmond.

Memorial services for Dr. Eris Arrowood Dedmond will be conducted Saturday morning, July 12, 2014 at 11 o’clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Martha Belle Day (April 18, 1927 – July 7, 2014) 

Mrs. Martha Belle Day, age 87, of Boone Passed away Monday, July 7, 2014, at Watauga Medical Center.

Mrs. Day was born April 18, 1927 in Watauga County, a daughter of the late Oney Ray Johnson and Ella Mae Bryan Johnson. She was a homemaker and a member of Liberty Baptist Church.

Mrs. Day is survived by one daughter, Betty Day Norris and husband Keith of Boone; one granddaughter, Karen Idol and husband Larry of Boone; two sisters, Anna Mae Miller and husband Thomas, and Jean Bumgarner and husband Billy, all of Boone; one brother, Howard Johnson of Boone, and one sister-in-law, Faye Johnson of Boone.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Day; one brother, Don Johnson, and one sister, Judy Johnson.

Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Belle Day will be conducted Thursday afternoon, July 10, 2014, at 2:00 o’clock, at Liberty Baptist Church. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 1:00 until 2:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Reverend Sonny Hagaman and Reverend T.J. Jackson. Burial will follow in Meat Camp Baptist church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon, from 6:00 until 8:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Service. At other times, friends may call at the residence, 1240 Meat Camp Road, Boone.

Dale Warren Dotson (January 20, 1937 – July 6, 2014)

Mr. Dale Warren Dotson, age 77, of Milton Brown Heirs Road, Boone, passed away Sunday evening, July 6th, at Glenbridge Health & Rehabilitation.

He is survived by four children, Penny Keistler and husband George of Zionville, Shelia Dotson of Banner Elk, Chris Dotson and wife Janine of Newton and Kevin Dotson and wife Monika of West Jefferson, two sisters, Peggy Norris of Pfafftown and Dorothy Bruce of Winston-Salem, 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Conrad and Doris Greene Dotson, one son, Keith Dotson, three brothers, Marvin, Kenneth and Floyd Dotson and three sisters, Margaret Dempster, Marie Watson and Myrtle Dotson.

Memorial services for Mr. Dale Warren Dotson will be conducted Saturday morning, July 12, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Baptist Church. Officiating will be Dr. Sonny Younce. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family in care of Austin & Barnes Funeral Home.
