Lela Mozelle Cole, D. July 29, 2013

Mrs. Lela Mozelle Greer Cole, age 86, of Clemmons passed away Monday afternoon at Regency Care of Clemmons.

Hugh Hagaman, Sr., D. July 27, 2013

Hugh B. Hagaman, Sr., 89, of Boone, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2013, at Glenbridge Health & Rehabilitation. Born January 22, 1924 in Boone, he was a son of Smith and Stella McCartney Hagaman. He formerly owned and managed Trailway Dry Cleaners, and served as an assistant manager of the ASU Bookstore. Mr. Hagaman served in the US Marine Corp during WWII and the Korean War, before graduating from Duke University. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Boone, a past president of the Boone Rotary Club, and a past chairman of the Watauga County Board of Education. 

Mr. Hagaman is survived his daughter, Mackie Hagaman and husband, Harvard Ayers, of Boone; daughter-in-law, Wendy Hagaman, and grandchildren, Holly Jean and Casey John Hagaman, and great-granddaughter, Emerson Skylar Hagaman, all of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin; and his brother, Mack Hagaman and wife, Vicki, of Winston-Salem. A number of nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Kimel Hagaman, son, Hugh ‘Buzz’ Hagaman, Jr.; brother, Len Hagaman; and sisters, Elsie Hagaman, Ruth McConnell, Crete Swift, Mamie Hagaman, and Jewell Mast. 

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at 11 AM at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment will be private. 

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 until 7:30 at Austin & Barnes. 

The family suggests memorials to the Glenbridge Residents’ Christmas Fund, PO Box 2150, Boone, NC 28607 or to a charity of donor’s choice.

Iva Dean Winkler, D. July 26, 2013

Mrs. Iva Dean Wilson Winkler, age 101 of Shadowline Drive, Boone, passed away Friday morning, July 26, 2013 at her home. Born August 17, 1911 in Watauga County she was a daughter of the late Dayton and Pearl Wilson. Mrs. Winkler was a graduate of Appalachian Normal School and taught elementary school for a brief period. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church. Mrs. Winkler was a homemaker and was an active partner with her late husband; Gordon Winker, in real estate development. Iva Dean was an active volunteer in the community also. 

She is survived by two daughters; Anna Boyce Keplar and husband Cliff and Barbara Winkler Dunnigan and husband Bob all of Boone, five grandchildren; Elizabeth Phillips of Raleigh, David Phillips and wife Tiana of Victoria, British Columbia, Stephen Phillips of Boone, Bobby Dunnigan and wife Tammy of Boone, and Linda Humnick and husband Paul of Maple Grove, Minnesota, and seven great grandchildren; Meagan Phillips of Boone, Daniel and Jordan Phillips of Victoria, British Columbia, Trey, Courtney and Whitney Dunnigan all of Boone, and Abraham and Katy Rose Humnick of Maple Grove, Minnesota. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Gordon Henry Winkler. 

Funeral services for Mrs. Iva Dean Wilson Winkler will be conducted Friday afternoon August 2, at 3 o’clock at the First Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Roy Dobyns. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall The family respectfully requests no food or flowers and suggest memorials to First Baptist Church, Rise Up Building Fund, 375, West King Street, Boone, NC 28607. Ollie Belle Bennett Coffey, age 86, of Winkler’s Creek Road, Boone, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at Watauga Medical Center. Born April 26, 1927 in Big Stone Gap, Va., she was a daughter of Jessie and Ella Loudermelt Bennett. Mrs. Coffey was a member of Faith Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and farmer. Mrs. Coffey enjoyed tending her vegetable and flower gardens, but her love was her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. 

Mrs. Coffey is survived by five sons, Clifford Coffey and wife, Carolyn, Buster and Clinton Coffey, James Coffey and wife, Sylvia, and Kenneth Coffey, all of Boone; two daughters, Hazel Payne and husband Steve of Boone, and Mary ‘Sue’ Coffey of Lenoir; thirty-four grandchildren, fifty-one great grandchildren, twenty-seven great-great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.     

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arlie Clinton Coffey; daughter, Dora Coffey; son, Jessie Coffey; three grandsons, Wayne, Bobby and Charles Coffey; great-granddaughter, Tanya Ward; sister, Grace Coffey; daughter-in-law, Mary Coffey; and her parents. 

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday morning, July 27, 2012, at 11 o’clock at Faith Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Dr. Sonny Younce and Rev. Randy Coffey. Burial will follow in the White Springs Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7 until 8:30 at Austin & Barnes. 

At other times, friends may call at the home of a son, Buster Coffey, 6102 Howard’s Creek Rd., Boone. 

Memorials may be made to a family member or to Austin & Barnes Funeral to assist with final expenses for Mrs. Coffey.
