Anthony Dacchille (April 10, 1930 – Jan. 12, 2015) 

Anthony Dacchille, 84, of 1040 Poplar Grove Road, Boone, passed away Monday morning, Jan. 12, 2015, at Life Care Center of Banner Elk.

Anthony was born April 10, 1930 in Staten Island, N.Y., a son of the late Vito and Vincenza Giovanniello Dacchille. He was a retired real estate developer and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

Anthony is survived by one son, Bill Dacchille and wife Donna of Boone; three grandsons, Stephen Dacchille, Parker Dacchille, and Joseph Dacchille, all of Boone; one granddaughter, Carolyn Dacchille of Boone, and one sister, Madeline Salzone of Staten Island, N.Y.. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Dacchille; two brothers, Lazaro and Angelo Dacchille, and one sister, Concetta Lionetti.

Funeral services for Anthony Dacchille will be conducted Saturday morning, Jan. 17, 2015, at 11:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 10 to 11 a.m. Officiating will be Pastor Chuck Berry. Military graveside rites and burial, provided by American Legion Post 130 and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 90, will follow in Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens.

The family will receive friends Saturday morning, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the funeral home, prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Life Care Center of Banner Elk, 185 Norwood Hollow Road, Banner Elk, NC, 28604.

Paul B. Arnette (Jan. 7, 1926 – Jan. 12, 2015)

Paul B. Arnette, 89, of Clark Swift Road, Vilas, passed away Monday afternoon, Jan. 12, 2015 at his home.

Born Jan. 7, 1926 in the Beaver Dam community of Watauga County, he was a son of Robert Doughton and Davie Harmon Arnette.

Paul served in the US Army during WWII and was awarded the silver-star for valor, then re-enlisted to serve a tour in Korea. He was a long time member of Willow Valley Baptist Church and retired as a fireman from the physical plant at ASU.

Paul’s love of life was his family, and, after retirement, his passion was planting and harvesting his annual vegetable gardens to share the bounty with family, neighbors’ friends.

Mr. Arnette is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sarah Swift Arnette; one daughter, Hilda Greer and husband, Tommy, of Vilas; two grandsons, Brandon Greer and wife, Crystal, and Justin Greer and wife, Amy, and two great-grandchildren, Andrew and Hannah Greer, all of Vilas; one Godson, Travis Potts of Boone; two brother, Boyd Arnette of Sugar Grove, and Bob Arnette and wife, Betty, of Lenoir; one sister, Juanita Greer of Lenoir; and a special family friend, Janet Glenn.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Ray Arnette.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon, Jan. 15, 2015, at 2 p.m., at Willow Valley Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Ray Greene. The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon from 12:30 to 2 p.m., prior to services, at the church. Graveside services, provided by the American Legion Post 130 and the Disabled American Veterans Post 90, will follow at the Willow Valley Baptist Church Cemetery.

Ruby Taylor Ross, 79, of Boone, passed away Saturday evening, Jan. 10, 2015 at Watauga Medical Center.

Born Aug. 26, 1935 in Wilkes County, she was a daughter of John Finley and Janie Johnson Taylor. Mrs. Ross was of the Baptist faith. She loved her family dearly and provided for them as only a mother could. Mrs. Ross worked for more than 24 years at the Holiday Inn in Boone, then as a cook at Bojangles before retiring.

She is survived by five sons, Kenneth Ross and wife, Carolyn, and Dean Ross and wife Pansy, all of Boone, Michael Ross and wife, Joyce, of Lenoir, Gregory Ross and Robert Ross and wife, Tammy, all of Boone; one daughter, Kathy Ross of Boone; two brothers, Jack Taylor of Lenoir, and Gwyn Taylor of Hickory; and one sister, Reba Riley of Hickory. Five grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and four nieces also survive.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Ross; and one son, Doug Ross.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday morning, Jan. 14, at 11 a.m. at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Chapel, officiated by Rev. T. J. Jackson. The family will receive friends Wednesday morning from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to services, at Austin & Barnes. Burial will follow at Mount Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery.

Jim was born Oct. 17, 1949, in Marion, a son of the late Glenn Morris Sr. and Augusta McGregor Morris. He was a human resources employee for hotels and clothing manufacturing industries.

Jim is survived by one daughter, Terrie Morris of Santa Cruz, California; one son, Glenn Morris and wife Kari of Boone; two grandsons, Carson Lee Morris and Ethan Hayes Morris, both of Boone, and one brother, Glenn Alexander Morris, Jr. of Chapel Hill.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Glenn Morris Sr. and Augusta McGregor Morris.

Memorial services for Mr. Jim M. Morris will be conducted Saturday afternoon, Jan. 17, 2015, at 1 p.m., at First Presbyterian Church of Marion. Officiating will be Pastor Jeff Coffey.

The family will receive friends following the memorial service.

Johnny Mack Brown, Sr., 66, of 199 Miranda Lane, Zionville, passed away Sunday evening, Jan. 11, 2015, at his home.

Mr. Brown was born Sept. 12, 1948 in Watauga County, a son of the late Clint and Dare Dishman Brown. He was a retired water plant operator for the Town of Boone, and a member of Westview Baptist Church.

Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Barbara Brown of the home; one son, Johnny Brown, Jr. and wife Jennifer of Zionville; two daughters, Miranda Norris and husband Steve of Deep Gap, and Kelly Goodman and husband Mark of Vilas; one granddaughter, Megan Goodman Smith of Vilas; five grandsons, Dylan Goodman and Darren Goodman, both of Vilas, Mack Brown, III and Mason Brown, both of Zionville, and Cole Norris of Deep Gap, and one great-grandson, Riley Smith of Vilas.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Brown.

Funeral services for Johnny Mack Brown, Sr. will be conducted Thursday afternoon, Jan. 15, 2015, at 3 p.m., at Brushy Fork Baptist Church. Officiating will be Reverend Mike Townsend and Reverend Toby Oliver. Graveside services will be private.

The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon, from 1 to 3 p.m., at the church, prior to the service.

Mr. Jerry R. Vaine, 72, of 3829 Junaluska Road, Boone, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015, at Watauga Medical Center.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Jean Nichols Vaine of the home; one daughter, Marlies Moscoto of Southbury, Connecticut; two sons, Michael Vaine and wife Ariahaqna of Seymore, Conn., and Matthew Vaine and fiancée Audrey of Kernersville, and four brothers, Wallace Vaine of Arizona, Neile Vaine of Winchester, N.H., Norman Vaine of California, and Timothy Vaine of Winchester, N.H.

He is also survived by eight grandchildren, including Sara Hill of Monticello, Wis., and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial services for Mr. Jerry R. Vaine will be conducted, at a later date, in New Hampshire.

Mrs. Audie Colvard Earp, 83 of Dewitt Barnett Road, Banner Elk, went home to be with the Lord Saturday morning, Jan. 10, 2015, from her home.

Born Nov. 10, 1931 in Watauga County, she was the daughter of Aud and Ona Hayes Colvard. Audie was a housewife and homemaker.

She is survived by one son, Ernie Lee Earp and wife, Marie, of Vilas; one daughter, Cathy Isaacs, of the home; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Earp was preceded in death by her husband, Earnest Earp, an infant daughter; three sons, Bobby, Larry and Cecil Earp; and her parents, Aud and Ona Hayes Colvard.

Memorial services for Audie Colvard Earp will be private.

Ms. Fairy Hodges Young, 83, of Chetola Drive, Blowing Rock, passed away Friday, Jan. 9, 2015 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House in Winston-Salem.

Born March 4, 1931 in Watauga County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas C. and Ethel Day Hodges. Fairy was an active member at Rutherwood Baptist Church. She enjoyed traveling, visiting with friends and family and with those unable to attend church. Ms. Young was retired from TRW/IRC where she worked in the credit department.

She is survived by one daughter, Pam Todd and husband Merle, one son, Tony Young all of Boone, four grandchildren; Jennifer Richardson and husband Kevin, Jordan Todd, Joe Toliver and Sarah Smith, and four great-great grandchildren, Blake, Luke and Grace Richardson and Hailey Todd.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Alvin Clyde Young.

Funeral services for Ms. Fairy Young will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Rutherwood Baptist Church. The body will lie in state at the church from 1 to 2 p.m.. Officiating will be Dr. Gary Lawrence. Burial will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens.

Katherine Joyce Trimm Hodges, 85, of Hidden Treasures, Boone, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015, at Avante Nursing Care in Wilkesboro.

Mrs. Hodges was born Aug. 27, 1929 in Cleveland, Tenn., a daughter of the late Fletcher and Cleo Smoke Trimm. She was a retired employee of Blue Ridge Shoe Company in Boone.

Mrs. Hodges is survived by four sons, Bill Hodges of Boone, Kenneth Roy Hodges and wife Vivian of Purlear, Ernest Lee Hodges and wife Mary of Winston-Salem, and Willard Hodges and wife Donna of the Triplett Community; two daughters, Joyce Earp and husband Larry of Sugar Grove, and Debra Cottrell of Bethlehem, and one sister, Norma Jean Buckner and husband J.W. of Atlanta, Ga. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Luther Hodges; her father and mother, Fletcher and Cleo Smoke Trimm; one sister, Doris Burgess; four brothers, Don, William, Anderson, and Larry Trimm; one grandson, Joseph Miller, and one great-granddaughter, Kali Church.

Funeral services for Katherine Joyce Trimm Hodges will be conducted Sunday afternoon, Jan. 11, 2015, at 2 p.m., at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel.
