Wade Rogers, 47, of 143 Rogers Drive, Boone, passed away Monday morning, Feb. 2, 2015, at Watauga Medical Center.

Wade is survived by his father, H.T. Rogers, Jr. of Boone; his mother, Joyce Payne of Mount Airy, and three aunts, Shirley Triplett and husband Lee, and Jean Payne Clontz, all of Boone, and Judy Tolbert of Blowing Rock.

Funeral services for Wade Rogers will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 4, 2015, at 2 p.m., at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 1 to 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens.

The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon, from 1 to 2 p.m., at the funeral home, prior to the service.

Betty Day Norris (June 23, 1947 – Jan. 31, 2015) 

Betty Ruth Day Norris, 67, of 190 Burkett Road, Boone, went home to be with her Lord Saturday evening, Jan. 31, 2015, from the Blowing Rock Hospital in Blowing Rock.

Betty was born June 23, 1947 in Watauga County, the daughter of the late Paul Day and Martha Belle Johnson Day. She retired from IRC/TRW after 27 years, and was currently employed as inside sales for Hospitality Mints for the last 20 years. She was a member of Mount Lebanon Baptist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. Most of all, she was a loving wife and mother.

Betty is survived by her husband, Keith A. Norris of the home, and one daughter, Karen Norris Idol and husband Larry of Boone. She is also survived by a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Brian Keith Norris.

Funeral services for Betty Day Norris will be conducted Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Mount Lebanon Baptist Church. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 1 to 2 p.m., prior to the service. Officiating will be Reverend Wynn Greer. Burial will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens.

The family will receive friends Monday evening, Feb. 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hampton Funeral Service.

Flowers are appreciated, or memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. The family respectfully requests no food.

Retha P. Bone (Nov. 16, 1918 – Jan. 29, 2015)

Retha Ellen Bone of Boone and a former resident of Waco, Tex., died Thursday morning, Jan. 29, 2015.

Retha was born in Slagle, La., on Nov. 16, 1918, to William and Mary Jane Pollard. She was married to Amos Lee Bone. She was primarily an excellent mother and homemaker.

She took pride in being a Southern Baptist Minister’s wife, and was the mother of three daughters, seven grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. She also worked for Cox’s Department Store in Waco, Texas for 25 years. She loved keeping a manicured yard with a garden and flowers; she enjoyed sewing, and was an avid reader! She was active in church work in South East Texas, San Antonio, Texas, Bell County, Texas, and Waco, Texas. She came to live in Watauga County in August 2007.

Retha is survived by her children, Barbara Kinsey of Deep Gap, Linda and Don Keltner of Houston, Tex., and a son-in-law, Travis Livingston of Stephenville, Tex.; 7 grandchildren, Wayne and Mary Livingston of Wills Point, Tex., Angie and husband, Clark Bickley of Austin, Tex., Tricia and Dave Masters of Lenoir, Robyn and Dewey Mooring of Durham, NC, Kimberly and Shawn Miller of Houston, Tex., Kevin Keltner and Elidia Perez, both of Waco, TX; 14 great-grandchildren, Janie Beth Livingston, TJ Livingston, Michael Livingston, Chrysta Naron, Eli Naron, Ben Masters, Rachel Masters, Tyler Mooring, Alex Mooring, Sami Miller, Saerah Miller, Gracaelynn Miller, Victor Keltner, and Olivia Keltner.

In addition to her parents, her husband, four brothers and two sisters, Retha was predeceased by her grandson, Scott Kinsey, her daughter, Jeanette Livingston, her son-in-law, Winston Kinsey and Jodie Naron.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 1, 2014 in the Chapel of First Baptist Church, Boone. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service. Joseph W. McMillan (Aug. 21, 1963 – Jan. 29, 2015)

Joseph William ‘Joey’ McMillan, 51, of Banner Elk, passed away Thursday, Jan. 29, at his home.

Joey was born Aug. 21, 1963 in Watauga County. He was employed at Greer Paving as an estimator and heavy equipment operator. As the family’s ‘master’ griller, Joey, enjoyed preparing meals for the family. He loved simply spending time with his family, his late brother, Jeff, and his many fishing adventures.

Joey is survived by his girlfriend, Melissa Campbell; daughter, Shannon Snyder and husband, Trent, of Mountain City, Tenn.; son, Josh McMillan and girlfriend, Heather Eller, of Vilas; sister, Denise Greene and husband, Paul, of Creston; his parents, Helen Presnell Parlier and Boyd Parlier of Vilas; and two grandchildren, Easton and Taylin Snyder.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Jeff Parlier and his close friend, Ted Presnell.

Funeral services for Joey McMillan will be private.

Cody M. Woodard (Nov. 13, 1988 – Jan. 29, 2015)

Mr. Cody Mikal Woodard, 26, of Boone, passed away Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015 at the Johnson City Medical Center.

Born Nov. 13, 1988 in Watauga County, he was a son of Susie Ellison and Mikal Woodard. Cody was a graduate of Watauga High School and a carpenter by trade.

He is survived by his mother, Susie Ellison of Fleetwood and his father, Mikal Woodard of Mountain City, Tenn., one sister, Heather Woodard of Boone, his maternal grandmother, Verlee Canter of Fleetwood, his maternal grandfather, Don Ellison, his paternal grandfather, Charles Woodard of Lenoir, four uncles, Jeff Canter and wife Vicki, Johnny Ellison and wife Betty, Randy Ellison and Jake Woodard, one aunt, Caroline Woodard, a number of cousins including; Chris Ellison, Amanda Ellison, Brittney Barbe, Christy Miller, Ashley Canter, Brandi and Robin Trivette, and special friends, Dennis, Neil and Audrey Hartley, and Andrew Roberts and Steven Severt.

Memorial services for Woodard will be conducted Monday evening at 7 p.m. at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Eric Proffitt. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Make A Wish Foundation, 1131 Harding Place, Charlotte, NC 28204.
