Wima Jean Harmon, age 65, of 211 Milton Brown Heirs Road, Boone, passed away Monday morning, April 7, 2014, at Glenbridge Health and Rehabilitation in Boone.

Mrs. Harmon was born January 16, 1949 in Watauga County, a daughter of the late Graydon and Pearl Smitherman Harmon. She was a homemaker and a member of Green Valley Baptist Church.

Mrs. Harmon is survived by two sons, Teddy Hicks and wife Crystal of Vilas, and Tony Hicks Douglas and wife Donna of Crestline, Ohio; one grandson, Dalton Hicks of Marion; one granddaughter, Sierra Hicks of Vilas; four step-grandsons, Calab and Jordon Metcalf both of Vilas, and Landon Kurtzman and Finn Winligken, both of Crestline, Ohio, and two sisters, Mary Johnson, and Glenda Trivett and husband William, all of Sugar Grove.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Stacy and Carroll Harmon, and two sisters, Ruby Harmon and infant Gala Harmon.

Funeral services for Wilma Jean Harmon will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, April 9, 2014, at 2:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 1:00 until 2:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Pastor Eric Cornett and Pastor Donnie Tester. Burial will follow in the Green Valley Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon, from 1:00 until 2:00 o’clock, at the funeral home, prior to the service. At other times, friends may call at the home of a sister, Glenda Trivett, 272 Trivett Circle, Sugar Grove.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Harmon family, in care of Hampton Funeral and Cremation Service, 683 Blowing Rock Road, Boone, North Carolina, 28607.

Mr. Thomas Anthony Higgins, age 74, of Alpine Acres Road, Vilas, passed away Saturday evening, April 5, 2014, at his residence.

Thomas was born December 18, 1939 in Wantaugh, Long Island, New York. He was married to Sandra J. Higgins.

In addition to his wife, Thomas is survived by his three children, Tom W. Higgins, Darleen Ostrowski and Doreen Aldrich. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Christopher T. Higgins.

Private memorial services for Thomas Anthony Higgins will be conducted at a later date.

Jimmy Robert Greene, age 74, of Tom Jackson Road, Boone, passed away Saturday morning, April 5, 2014, at Glenbridge Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Greene is survived by his wife of 57 years, Chessie Greene of the home, two sons, Richard Charles “Rick” Greene of Boone and Robert Clinton Greene of Bellhaven, NC and fiancee Kathy Lipford of Trade, one daughter, Lori Ann Greene of Todd, three grandsons, Richard Charles “Ric” Greene II  and wife Corrina of Gastonia, Christopher Thomas Greene and wife Patricia of Lansing, and Justin Wayne Greene of Parlier, two granddaughters Carrie Dugger and Allan Mast of Todd and Crystal Greer and husband Brandon  of Vilas, five great-granddaughters Mattie Greene and McKinnley Greene of Gastonia, Kylie Greene of Ashe Lansing, and Kayla Mast and Katie Mast of Todd, and one great-grandson, Andrew Greer of Vilas, one brother Edsel Greene and wife Geneva of Zionville.  Three nieces also survive.

He is preceded in death by his father and mother, June and Thelma Brown Greene.

Memorial services for Jimmy Robert Greene will be conducted Monday afternoon, April 7, 2014 at 2:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel.  Officiating will be Reverend Gary Norris.  

The family will receive friends Monday afternoon from 1:00 until 2:00, at the chapel, prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may made to Caldwell Hospice and Pallative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, North Carolina 28645.

After a lengthy illness John Dillard Presnell, 81, passed away on April 4, 2014 at the Beacon Place Hospice in Greensboro, NC.

Born June 9, 1932 in Watauga County, John Dillard was the son of Joseph Craft Presnell and Hettie Tester Presnell. He was an Army Veteran who served in the Korean conflict. John Dillard was a member of Zacks Fork Baptist Church.

Mr. Blake Lindsley Wiley, age 43, of Hodges Gap Road, Boone, passed away April 3, 2014 at Watauga Medical Center.

He is survived by his father, Sam Wiley of Banner Elk, three daughters, Lula, Maya and Phoenix, and his grandmother, Helen Lindsley of Tequesta, Florida and a number of aunts and uncles.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Tamasine Boye’ Lindsley Wiley.

Funeral services for Mr. Blake Lindsley Wiley will be conducted Tuesday afternoon, April 8, 2014, at 2:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 1:00 until 2:00 o’clock. Burial will follow in Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens.

The family will receive friends Monday evening, from 6:00 until 8:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Service.

Ethel Enna Nichols Clawson, age 101, of Deep Gap, passed away Wednesday evening, April 2, 2014, at Watauga Medical Center after suffering a severe heart attack.

Mrs. Clawson was born December 16, 1912 in Wilkes County, a daughter of the late Arthur and Mattie Hamby Nichols. Her family soon moved to the Deep Gap Community and she was a life long resident. She attended Appalachian High School and was an active member of Laurel Springs Baptist Church.

Mrs. Clawson is survived by two sons, Gerald R. Clawson and wife Lynne of Greensboro, and David L. Clawson of Linville. She was also blessed with four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Richard Worth Clawson; three brothers, Challie Nichols, Monroe Nichols, and Arthur Frank Nichols, five sisters, Viola Greer, Hattie Belcher, Florence Day, Emma Moretz, and Minnie Wellborn.

Funeral services for Ethel Enna Nichols Clawson will be conducted Monday morning, April 7, 2014, at 10:00 o’clock, at Laurel Springs Baptist Church. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 9:00 until 10:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Pastor Brent Bolick and Pastor Tim Lynch. Burial will follow in Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening, from 6:00 until 8:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Laurel Springs Baptist Church Building Fund, 7504 US Highway 421 South, Deep Gap, North Carolina, 28618.

Mr. Jack Sherrill Wellborn, age 78, of US 221 North, Deep Gap, passed away Wednesday afternoon, April 2, 2014 at home. Born December 8, 1935 in Watauga County he was the son of the late Russell and Mabel Triplett Wellborn. Jack was a member and Deacon at Gap Creek Baptist Church. True to his name he was a “Jack” of all trades and the owner and operator of J & M Wrecker service for many years. 

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joanne Critcher Wellborn, one son, Phil Wellborn, one daughter in law, Debbie Roark Wellborn, two granddaughters; Courtney W. Eller and husband Jason of Todd and Meagan Wellborn of Deep Gap, two great grandchildren; Sawyer and Peyton Eller of Todd, one sister, Jan Blackburn and husband Chuck of Deep Gap, and a number of nieces, nephews and in laws. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Mark Wellborn and his maternal grandparents, Grady and Lettie Triplett.

Funeral services for Mr. Jack Sherrill Wellborn will be conducted Saturday morning at 11 o’clock at Laurel Springs Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Keith Wagner, Rev. Paul Coffey and Rev. Ricky Critcher. Burial will follow in Laurel Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The family respectfully requests no flowers.
