Floy Greene Love, age 84, of Green Street, Boone, passed away Sunday morning, April 13, 2014. Floy was born January 27, 1930 in Watauga County. 

Mrs. Live is survived by her son, Jimmy Love of Boone; and his fiancé, April Beach of Vilas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arville Lee Love; her mother, Ruth Greene Calcutt; and a brother, Herman Greene. 

As requested by Mrs. Love, services will be private. 

The family will receive friends Thursday evening, April l7th, from 6 until 7:30 at Austin & Barnes. 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to a charity of the donor’s choice.

John Robbins Rainey, age 64, of Ski Acres Drive, Blowing Rock, passed away Saturday afternoon, April 12, 2014, at the home of his sister in Blowing Rock.

John touched many lives in his short 64 years. He invested time in developing relationships that grew into meaningful friendships. At every opportunity he expressed his love for his family and those he held dear. He never met a problem he could not solve. He was dedicated to his work and his customers. He spread joy, laughter, kindness, and love to all people he encountered. He loved his church, his family including five wonderful grandchildren, these beautiful mountains, his cherished friends, and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.

John is survived by two daughters, Andrea Rainey Stuart and husband Jeff of Memphis, Tennessee, and Lara Rainey Stanley and husband Jason of Warner Robbins, Georgia; one granddaughter, Hailey Stuart of Memphis; four grandsons, Andrew Swords and Jackson Stuart, both of Memphis, Carson Stanley and Bryson Stanley, both of Warner Robbins; one sister, Linda Campbell and husband Lance of Blowing Rock; one step-niece, Marin Campbell of Flagstaff, Arizona, and one step-nephew, Curtis Campbell of Gainesville, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Foy William Rainey and Pemberton Robbins Rainey.

Memorial services for John Robbins Rainey will be conducted Thursday afternoon, April 17, 2014, at 2:00 o’clock, at First Presbyterian Church of Boone. Officiating will be Reverend Joel Long.

The family will receive friends, at the church, following the memorial service.

Mrs. Bertie Alice Ward, age 79, of Boone, passed away Thursday afternoon, April 10, 2014 at Watauga Medical Center. 

Born July 6, 1934 in Watauga County, she was a daughter of Claude and Manarka Ward. She was of the Baptist faith. Bertie was a Christian lady who loved her Lord and adored her family. She enjoyed her family, walking the Greenway, and harvesting and canning her many vegetable gardens.

Mrs. Ward is survived by her children, Frank Ward and wife, Sandra, Judy Ann Miller and husband, J.W. and Steve Lane Ward, all of Boone, Eddie Dean Ward and wife, Betty, of Sugar Grove, and Linda Baldwin of Mountain City, Tennessee; twelve grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren; and her sister, Margie Harmon of Sugar Grove. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie James Ward; grandson, Matthew Tester; six sisters, Vernie Hicks, Addie Ward, Emma Kay Ward, Viola Ward and two infants, Tiny Ruth and Dollie Ann; and her son-in-law, Bill Baldwin.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon, April 13, 2014, at 3 o’clock at the Liberty United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Dean Ward and Rev. Derek Wilson. Burial will follow in the Matney-Liberty Community Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 until 8 o’clock at Austin & Barnes.

Mrs. Genelle Blackley Addison, age 65, of Lynhill Lane, Boone, NC passed away Wednesday morning, April 9, 2014 at Watauga Medical Center. Born October 23, 1948 in Durham, NC she was a daughter of the late Henry Grady and Nita Rose Williford Blackley. “Gee Gee,” as she was known was retired from First Citizens Bank in Blowing Rock. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Blowing Rock where she sang in the choir. Genelle’s favorite things wereloving the Lord, her family, singing, laughing, and making friends; she never met a stranger. 

She is survived by her husband Duane Addison, one son, Jordan Addison and wife Andrea of New York City, one daughter, Brook Addison Hicks and husband Carl of Banner Elk, two grandchildren, Madirose and Colt Hicks, one brother, Martin Blackley and wife Tommie of Durham, one sister in law, Teresa Blackley of Durham, one aunt, Louise “Teny” Moss of Durham and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, one brother Grady Arnold Blackley, preceded her in death.

Memorial services for Mrs. Genelle Blackley Addison will be conducted Saturday evening, April 12, 2014 at 6 o’clock at the First Baptist Church in Blowing Rock for family and friends. Officiating will be Rev. Marshall Edwards, Rev. Jerry Allen, and Rev. Rusty Guenther. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to NC Baptist Children’s Home, PO Box 388, Thomasville, NC 27361 or to Samaritans Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.

Faye Hardy Foley, age 71, of 3102 US Highway 421 North, Boone, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

Faye was born July 24, 1942 in Watauga County, a daughter of the late Bynum Jack Hardy, Sr. and Nora Moody Hardy. She was a retired co-owner of Foley’s Auction and a member of Brushy Fork Baptist Church.

Faye is survived by her husband, Robert A. Foley, Sr. of the home; three sons, Robert A. Foley, Jr. and wife Sarah of Greensboro, Mark Foley and Richard Foley, both of Boone; one granddaughter, Kassidy Foley of Mountain City, Tennessee; three grandsons, Cameron Foley, Ian Foley, and Benjamin Foley, all of Greensboro; one sister, Nora Holshouser of Chesterfield, South Carolina, and one brother, Bynum Jack Hardy, Jr. and wife Barbara of Deep Gap. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Monteau and Bessie Davila Rodriguez. 

Funeral services for Faye Hardy Foley will be conducted Saturday afternoon, April 12, 2014, at 2:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 12:00 until 2:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Reverend Larry Wilson. Burial will follow in Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens.

The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon, from 12:00 until 2:00 o’clock, at the funeral home, prior to the service.
