Watauga County Commissioners to Smoky Mountain Board of Directors in Letter: Practice What You Preach

By Jesse Wood

Sept. 23, 2013. In response to Watauga County potentially losing its seat on the Smoky Mountain Center Board of Directors, the Watauga County Board of Commissioners penned a letter to the Smoky Mountain board.

This letter comes after the Smoky Mountain Board of Directors voted on members to the newly reconstituted board that will take effect Oct. 1, and a Watauga County representative was not included in the new board. That vote is a direct response to Senate Bill 191, which designates the new composition of local management entities’ boards and limits boards to only 21 members. The Smoky Mountain board in the past consisted of representation from every county and was a 30-member board.
