Oct. 11, 2012. The Watauga Community Band presents its Fall Concert on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, at 3 p.m. at Rosen Concert Hall in the Hayes School of Music on ASU.
Bill Winkler conducts the all-volunteer concert band, which was founded in 1986 and consists of ASU students and members of the local community.
The Watauga Community Band will perform Igor Stravinksy’s “Firebird” and James Horner’s “My Heart Will Go On” from the 1997 film Titanic. A press release states, “There will also be a mystery selection that is sure to surprise the audience.”
The band will have special guests, as well. Tuba player Brian Bergen will be guest conductor on Stu Phillip’s and Glen Larson’s “Battlestar Galactica” from the original television series.
The German band, Oompah, will also take the stage to perform some pieces.
Unlike many other community bands, the Watauga Community Band does not have a fee to participate, so it raises money during the summer months playing for local businesses, campgrounds and other events to fund the organization.
The concert is free and open to the public, however donations are welcome and appreciated.
