July 29, 2014. As Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute (CCC&TI) no longer utilizes its former Continuing Education Building because of the construction of new facilities at its campus in Watauga, CCC&TI will transfer the one-acre property to Watauga County, according to a memo from County Manager Deron Geouque.
On Tuesday, Aug. 5, the Watauga County Board of Commissioners will discuss auctioning the property on GovDeals.com, which has been recommended by county staff.
“Based on the review, staff would recommend the board surplus the property and authorize the sale of the property on GovDeals as there are no current county needs for the facility,” the memo reads. “The board would need to establish a sale price and adopt the attached resolution to sell the property on GovDeals. The current tax value of the property is $331,000.”
A draft resolution to surplus the property notes that the property is located at 139 Health Center Dr. – near the Hunger & Health Coalition and the Hospitality House of Boone off of Bamboo Road. It has a parcel ID number of 2920-07-6399-000 on the Watauga County tax maps.
While the appraised value of the property is $331,000, the land is valued at $129,300 and the roughly 7,000-square-foot building is valued at $201,700.
If commissioners were to approve of auctioning off the property as written in the draft resolution, the county would accept bids from listing until Sept. 30, 2014, at 5 p.m. The commissioners will also set a minimum bid for this property at the meeting on Tuesday.
