By Jesse Wood

Feb. 17, 2014. Watauga County Schools and Avery County Schools are operating on a two-hour delay Monday morning due to icy roads in certain parts of the counties.

An announcement from Watauga County Schools noted that buses would only travel on paved roads, while Avery County Schools mentioned it would not travel on Sugar Mountain Maintenance, Arnett, Lee Gwaultney, Ruben Wooten, John Greer, Berry, Dogwood Knob (gravel), Old Plumtree Creek (gravel), Buck Mountain (gravel), Sam Eller (gravel), Old Beech Mountain (gravel), and Gillam.

So far this year, Watauga County Schools has missed 14 days and Avery County Schools has missed 16 days due to inclement weather. WCS enacted Saturday school in January, while ACS added 30 minutes of class time at the end of the school day to make up for lost time.
