Feb. 22, 2013. Due to the icy conditions, Watauga County and Avery County Schools classes were cancelled for Friday, Feb. 22.

A winter weather advisory from the National Weather Service is in effect until 10 a.m,, though precipitation is 100 percent today. Temperatures hovering at or below freezing will occur throughout the morning and will warm into the mid to upper 30s in the afternoon.

In the eastern most areas and deep valleys, though, temperatures will struggle to reach above freezing temperatures and icing will be a problem until late today or before warmer air arrives tonight, according to Ray’s Weather. Expect one-tenth of an inch of ice or less in those areas.
