Robert Bentley (Jan. 22, 1930 – Sept. 27, 2016)
Mr. Robert Bentley, 86, of Hwy 105 South, passed away Tuesday evening at Cannon Memorial Hospital.
He is survived by his children, Debra Aldridge and husband Chip of Foscoe and Dexter Bentley and wife Glenda of Vilas. He was preceded in death by his wife Geneva Bentley.

John Q. Miller, Sr. (Jan. 14, 1920 – Sept. 26, 2016)
John Q. Miller, Sr., 96, of Farthing Street, Boone, passed away Monday afternoon, September 26, 2016, at Blowing Rock Rehabilitation and Davant Extended Care Center in Blowing Rock.
Mr. Miller was born January 14, 1920 in Ashe County, a son of the late Alonzo and Bessie Moretz Miller. He served as a tank driver with the 9th Armored Division in 1944-45. Mr. Miller was awarded the combat infantry badge, three bronze stars, and a presidential unit citation for action in France, and Germany during World War II.
During his working career he co-owned Miller Brother’s Army Surplus, Foscoe Family Campground, and A& M Imports Auto Parts. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and traveling. He will always be remembered for his easy-going nature and generosity.
He is survived by his son, John Q. Miller, Jr. and wife Judy; one grandson, Jonathan Miller and wife Susie; two great-grandsons, Andrew and Thomas Miller; two brothers Kent Miller, of Miami, Florida, and Bob Miller of West Jefferson, and three sisters, Mary-Sue Payne of West Jefferson, Kathleen Wellborn of Deep Gap, and Sarah Hunt of Danbury, Virginia. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Sophia Evans Miller; one brother, Paul E. Miller, Sr., and one sister, Anne Posternak.
Funeral services for John Q. Miller, Sr. will be conducted Friday afternoon, September 30, 2016, at 2:00 o’clock, at Grace Lutheran Church. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 1:00 until 2:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Pastor John Bollinger, Pastor Leonard Bolick and Vicor Sue Lynn White.
Military graveside rites and burial, provided by the United States Army, American Legion Post 130, and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 90, will follow in Gap Creek Cemetery in Deep Gap. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, from 7:00 until 9:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Service.

Mrs. Norma Jean S. Shook (Nov. 21, 1959 – Sept. 25, 2016)
Norma Jean Jeannie Simmons Shook, age 56, passed away Sunday, September 25 at her home. Born November 21, 1959 in Watauga County, she was the daughter of Bill and Connie Fike Simmons. Jeannie was a Certified Nursing Assistant.
She is survived by her husband, Freddie Shook, one son, Frederick Shook, two brothers, Norman and Bobby Simmons.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one daughter, Janie Shook, one son, Justin Shook, and one brother, Eddie Simmons.
The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon from 2 oclock until 4 oclock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home.

Rochelle Langston Sanders (June 27, 1956 – Sept. 24, 2016)
Rochelle Langston Sanders, 60, of Boone passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at her home. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 26 at Hampton Funeral Service, 683 Blowing Rock Road, Boone, NC.
Rochelle was the daughter of the late Albert and Marie Zacharek Powers and was also preceded in death by her husband, Garry Sanders; grandson, Calahan Mosby Nixon; and sister, Gloria Goff. Surviving are her daughters, Davida Langston of Charlotte, Denise Nixon and her husband, Tyson of Liberty and Crissy Sanders of Fleetwood; step-son, Chad Sanders of Pensacola, FL; sister, Elizabeth Powers of Kailua, HI; brother, Anthony Autrey of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Kayla Helmick and Jack Sanders, her first husband, David Langston and sister-in-law, Rose.

Kelle Broome Muehleib (May 4, 1977 – Sept. 21, 2016)
Mrs. Teresa Kelle Broome Muehleib of Boone, NC, passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at the age of 39. Kelle was born to parents Murray and Debbie Broome on May 4, 1977.
She grew up as the oldest of 2 children and attended Watauga High School. She continued her education which concluded with a Master’s Degree in Social Work. This facilitated her passion for working with the impoverished youth population of Watauga and Avery counties.
In 2010, she married Tristan Muehleib in her own personal paradise, Treasure Cay, Bahamas. After a brief interval in Washington, D.C., the two decided they would love to relocate back to Boone in order to begin their young family. Kelle is survived by her husband Tristan, son Baxter, and her parents Murray and Debbie. She is also survived by her brother Jesse of Vancouver, WA, his wife Kali and their daughter Dillon.
Additionally, her spirit is kept alive by the tremendous community of Boone and surrounding areas, as evidenced by the overflowing generosity our family has received during this difficult time. A Celebration of Kelle’s Life will be conducted Saturday afternoon, September 24, 2016, at 1:00 o’clock, at Deerfield United Methodist.

Mrs. Nan D. Sherman (Oct. 22, 1927 – Sept. 19, 2016)
Nan DeRouchie Sherman, 88, passed away on Sept 19, 2016 at Blowing Rock Extended Care in Blowing Rock, NC. She was born Oct. 22, 1927 in Fayetteville, NY.
Mrs. Sherman was married to John S. Sherman Jr for 39 wonderful years.
Nan Sherman is survived by her husband, John Jack Sherman, her daughter Stephanie Johnson and husband Bob of Blowing Rock, her sons S. Mark Mucher and wife Amy of Vero Beach, FL, Christopher Mucher and wife Cindy of Yellow Springs, Oh and Jeffrey Mucher and wife Kay of Arlington, TX
Nana was also survived by her eight grandchildren, Jennifer Almarez, Zachary Mucher, Christen Mucher, Stephen Mucher, Michael Mucher, Timothy Harding, Hallie Harding and Kasey Mucher. Nana was also blessed with 9 great grandchildren.
Nan was preceded in death by her first husband, Stephen Mucher, Jr.
