Richard Robinson (Aug. 27, 1948 – Nov. 8, 2016)

4000441_wlppRichard Robinson, age 68, of Meadowview Drive, Boone, passed away Tuesday morning, November 8, 2016, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Lenoir.

Mr. Robinson is survived by one daughter, Jennifer Coggins and husband Jason, of Boone, two sons, Adam Robinson of Boone and Justin Robinson, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, one sister, Fran Solis and husband Wayne, of Metairie, Louisiana, two grandchildren, Lilly Coggins and Sam Coggins both of Boone.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Ralph C. and Evelyn White Robinson and one sister, Anne Farone.

A memorial service for Mr. Richard Robinson will we held at a later date.

Michael Andrew Smith (Jan. 24, 1951 – Nov. 6, 2016)

smithMichael Andrew Smith, 65, of 501 Seven Oaks Drive, Boone, passed away Sunday morning, Nov. 6, 2016, at his home.

Michael is survived by three sons, Jason Roland of Atlanta, Georgia, Brandon Smith and wife Jenna of East Point, Georgia, and Joshua Smither of Hampton, Georgia; one granddaughter, June Smith of East Point; one grandson, Trevor of East Point, and two sisters, Jackie Dodson of Boone and Deborah Godbee of Crawfordville, Georgia. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Andrew J. Smith and Marguerite Brown Smith.

Funeral services for Michael Andrew Smith will be conducted Wednesday morning, November 9, 2016, at 11:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 10:00 until 11:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Reverend Sam McGinn and Reverend Bud Russell. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday morning, from 10:00 until 11:00 o’clock, at the funeral home, prior to the service.

Burl Lee Wilson (Oct. 16, 1923 – Nov. 6, 2016)

Burl Lee Wilson, 93, of the Silverstone Community in Zionville, went to rest eternally with his Lord and Savior, Sunday, November 6, 2016.

Burl was born October 16, 1923, a son of Baxter and Lily Wilson. He worked for 50 years at the Burley Tobacco Warehouses as a floor manager. Burl was known in the Silverstone Community as the “Lawnmower Man” and repaired small engines. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and a former deacon.

wilsonBurl is survived by his wife of 74 years. Bertha Sanders Wilson; four children, Sonny Wilson and wife Hilda, Tommy Wilson and wife Carolyn, Gail Dotson and husband Tommy, and Darlene Hicks and husband Jimmy; eight grandchildren, Preacher Derick Wilson and wife Holli, Debbie Warren and husband John, Angie Norris, Preacher T.J. Wilson and wife Poppy, Cindy Sullivan and husband Craig, Katrina Hicks and husband Mike, Bradley Hicks and wife Shannon, and Kendra Hicks; two brothers, Jerry Wilson and Snook Wilson and wife Etta; three sisters, Pearl Fletcher, Anabelle Martin and husband Asa, and Emma Jean Blackburn and husband Bill. He is also survived by twenty-four great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Duane Wilson and Jamie Duran Hicks; one granddaughter-in-law, Angela Wilson; four brothers, J.B., Clayton “Cricket”, Jim, and Henry Wilson, and three sisters, Edith Wilson, Edna Tester, and IvaLee Reece.

Funeral services for Burl Lee Wilson will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, November 9, 2016, at 3:00 o’clock, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 1:00 until 3:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Reverend Herbert McCoy, Preacher Derick Wilson, and Preacher T.J. Wilson. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon, from 1:00 until 3:00 o’clock, at the church, prior to the service. At other times, friends may call at the residence of a son, Tommy and Carolyn Wilson.

John R. Shelton (Aug. 5, 1953 – Nov. 5, 2016)

John R. Shelton, 63, of Shelton Hollow Road, Creston, passed away Saturday morning, November 5, 2016, at his home.

John was born August 5, 1953 in Ashe County, a son of the late William Raymond Shelton and Opal Roark Shelton. He was a general farmer on his own farm.

sheltonJohn is survived by his wife, Evelyn Price Shelton of the home; one son, Daniel Shelton and wife Veronica of Creston; two granddaughters, Carrie Price and Nevada Price, both of Creston; one grandson, Shelton Price of Creston; four sisters, Barbara Ann Howard and husband Dana of Laurel Bloomery, Tennessee, Phyllis Flannery and husband Dwight of Thomasville, Janet Lott and husband Gerry of Morganton, and Connie Canter and husband Larry of Zionville, and three brothers, J.C. Shelton and wife Bernice of Creston, Jack Shelton and wife Wanda of Vilas, and James Shelton and wife April of Mountain City, Tennessee. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for John R. Shelton will be conducted Monday evening, November 7, 2016, at 8:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 6:00 until 8:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Reverend Spencer Roark. Graveside services and burial will be conducted Tuesday morning, November 8, 2016, at 11:00 o’clock.

The family will receive friends Monday evening, from 6:00 until 8:00 o’clock, at the funeral home, prior to the service.

Patricia Marie Tucker Carpenter (May 20, 1966 – Nov. 4, 2016)

patricia-carpenter-1478274591Patricia Marie Tucker Carpenter, 50, of Linville passed away on November 4, 2016 at her residence after a short illness.

She was born May 20, 1966 a daughter of Howard Sherman Carpenter of Newland and the late Loraine Stinmiller Carpenter.

She was a homemaker and attended Faith Baptist Church.

Patricia has left to cherish her memory: significant other, Robert Hartshorne of Newland; children, Charles Tucker of Elk Park, Ashley Tucker and significant other Adam Brady of Elk park, Candice Adams of Newland, Anthony Adams, Jr. of Morganton; brother, Sherman Carpenter III and significant other Cortney Owens of Newland; father, Howard Carpenter, Jr. of Newland; and seven grandchildren.

A Celebration of the life of Patricia Marie Tucker Carpenter will be Thursday, November 10, 2016 at 6 PM at Faith Baptist Church with Preacher Brad Calhoun officiating.


Jerald “Jerry” David Harmon (Jan. 14, 1943 – Nov. 4, 2016)

Jerald David Harmon “Jerry”, 73, of Linville went home to be with The Lord in paradise on November 4, 2016.

jerald-jerry-harmon-1478272582He was born January 14, 1943 in Banner Elk, NC to Robert Lee and Elsie Margaret Forbes Harmon. He worked at Three Nails Hardware and Avery True Value Hardware for a total of 30 + years. He was one of the first firefighters to start Linville Fire Department. He was also a meat cutter for years at Hampton Store, Greene’s Food Center and Linville Food Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents Robert in 1979 and Elsie in 2004. His wife Annie Mae Gragg Harmon on May 3, 2015 and brothers Gary Allen Harmon in 1941, Raymond “Kit” Harmon in 1990.

He is survived by daughters; Teresa Lynn Hicks and husband David of Roan Mountain, TN., Lisa Ann Gaddy and husband Russell of Linville, NC; brothers, Robert Harmon and wife Shirley of Statesville, NC; grandchildren; Angel Brooke Carpenter Grindstaff, Aaron Benjamin Carpenter, Noah Allen Hicks and Joshua David Gaddy; great grandchildren, Timmy, Keliyah, Kyierra, Jacobi, Isaiah, Ada Mae, Aiden, Arabella and Wayson.

Funeral services for Jerald Harmon will be conducted at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home of Newland in the Grandfather Chapel with Rev. Joshua Calvert and Dr. Ken Harper officiating. Interment will follow in the Tanglewood Cemetery in Linville, NC. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Sunday Nov. 6, 2016 until the service at 3PM at the Funeral Home.

Norman Scott Reece (Sept. 20, 1965 – Nov. 4, 2016)

Don H. Fairchild (Dec. 17, 1927 – Nov. 2, 2016)

Don Hoover Fairchild, 88, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016, at Life Care of Banner Elk, NC.

He died peacefully with his loving wife and family by his side. He was a Godly man of integrity and served the Lord in many ways; he taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and served as a deacon in the church. Now his spirit is set free, absent from the body to be present with the Lord.

Don was born to Ike and Flo Fairchild in Sunbury, Ohio on December 17, 1927. He was raised in Sunbury with his two brothers and one sister.

fairchildAfter he graduated from Sunbury High he joined the Army Air Corps during World War II. When he returned home he married Mary Eloise Fisher and they moved to Miami, Florida where they had four children. Eloise passed away at the young age of 29. Two years later Don met and married the second love of his life, Dottie, and together they added another daughter to the family. Later they moved their family to Boone and were happily married for 51 years.

Don is survived by his wife, Dorothy “Dottie” Cook Fairchild of the home; five loving children, Becky Fairchild Duncan and husband, Robert of Wilkesboro, David Fairchild and wife, Lenny of Bothell, Washington, Mark Fairchild and wife, Dudley of Lynchburg, Virginia, Dianne Fairchild Yates of Vilas, Elizabeth Fairchild Nilsson and husband, Carl of Greensboro; his grandchildren, Robin Duncan Stewart and husband, Brian, Nathan Duncan and wife, Amy, Mary Eloise Fairchild Black and husband, Bruce, Josh Fairchild and wife, Cathy, Anna Fairchild, Abby Fairchild Partin and husband, Mike, Brandon, Ronald, and Cody Yates, Stephanie, Christina and Thomas Olson (children of Elizabeth Nilsson); five great-grandchildren, Ayla Yates, Sophie Black, Chapman and Rhett Duncan, Carter Fairchild. Don is also survived by two brothers, Ned Fairchild and wife, Rachel of Three Hills, Canada, Terrance Fairchild and wife, Harriett of Delaware, Ohio; one sister, Mary Jane Corwin of Sunbury, Ohio; several nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his father and mother, Ike and Flo Fairchild and first wife, Mary Eloise Fairchild.

Funeral services for Don Hoover Fairchild will be conducted Monday afternoon, November 7, at 2:00 o’clock, at Greenway Baptist Church. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 1:00 until 2:00 o’clock.

Officiating will be Reverend Darrell Hobbs and Reverend Harold Bennett. Military graveside rites and burial, provided by the United States Army, will follow in Cove Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday afternoon, from 1:00 until 2:00 o’clock, at the church, prior to the service. 

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Greenway Baptist Church Missions.

Mr. Jody S. Danner (Jan. 29, 1972 – Oct. 31, 2016)

bigdanner-1Mr. Jody Shon Danner, age 44, of Zionville, passed away Monday evening October 31, 2016 at Watauga Medical Center. Born January 29, 1972 in Watauga County, he was a son of the late Harold Danner and Brenda Canter Danner.

He is survived by his wife, Melissa Danner of Zionville, his mother, Brenda Canter Danner of Zionville, one sister, Tabatha Oakes and husband Johnny of Boone, one brother, Duane Danner of Zionville, his nieces and nephews, Miranda Baker, Brandon Dollar and wife Julie, Brian Oakes and wife Michelle, Bradley Oakes and wife Heather, Eric Danner and wife Brittany, Justin Danner and Cody Oakes, thirteen great nieces and nephews, a number of Aunts and Uncles, and his beloved dog, Cheyenne.

Funeral services for Jody Shon Danner will be conducted Friday afternoon, November 4, at 1:00 p.m. at Westside Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. David Ward, Rev. Derick Wilson, and Rev. Brian Miller. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home.
