Marie Howes Littlejohn (Dec. 20, 1925 – May 24, 2016)

 

Marie Howes Littlejohn, age 90, of Bamboo Road, Boone, passed away Tuesday afternoon, May 24, 2016 at Deerfield Ridge Extended Living Center.

Mrs. Littlejohn was born December 20, 1925 in Forest City, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Ralph Raymond Howes and Emma Jordan Howes. She was a homemaker, and member of the Saint James Episcopal Church in Marietta, Georgia.

Mrs. Littlejohn is survived by two sons, Leonard S. Littlejohn, Jr., and C. Merrill Littlejohn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard S. Littlejohn, Sr., and her father and mother, Ralph Raymond Howes and Emma Jordan Howes.

Funeral services for Marie Howes Littlejohn will be conducted Saturday afternoon, May 28, 2016 at 2:00 o’clock at Saint James Episcopal Church. Officiating will be Revered Roger Allen. Burial will follow in the Saint James Episcopal Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon, from 1:00 until 2:00, at Saint James Episcopal Church, one hour prior to the service.

Ronald Lee Turbyfill (Aug. 22, 1941 – May 23, 2016)

Ronald Lee Turbyfill, age 74, of Elk Park passed away on May 23, 2016 at Life Care Center of Banner Elk.

A native of Avery County, he was born August 22, 1941 a son of the late Charles William and Okie Alice Darnell Turbyfill.

He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing and farming.

Along with his parents, Ronald was preceded in death by his: wife, Lillian Campbell Turbyfill; four brothers, IB, Roger, Charles, Hardy and Lester.

Ronald has left to cherish his memory his: brothers, Wayne Turbyfill and wife Lora of Elizabethton, TN, Charles Edward Turbyfill of Elk Park, NC; sisters, Ruth Reed, Mildred White and husband Don, Hursley Reed and Lola Turbyfill all of Morganton, NC.

Funeral services for Ronald Lee Turbyfill will be conducted on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at 2:00 pm in the Grandfather Chapel of Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Greene officiating. Interment will follow in the Isaacs Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until the service hour at the funeral home.

Ralph S. Critcher (Sept. 14, 1934 – May 23, 2016)

Ralph S. Critcher, Jr., better known as Jim, age 81, of Bamboo Road, Boone, passed away Monday morning May 23, 2016. Born September 14, 1934 in Boone, he was a son of Ralph, Sr. and Ola Cook Critcher. He retired from Combustion Engineering and Transport in Marion. As a faithful member of Proffitts Grove Baptist Church, Jim loved his church family dearly. He also was a member of the Wellness Center in Boone where he diligently worked out 6 days a week to keep in shape. There he passed doing what he loved most. Jim spoke often of the fellowship and comradery of his work out family, enjoying everyone immensely.

Mr. Critcher is survived by his wife, Della Shull Critcher; two sons, James ‘Jimmy’ Critcher and wife, LeeAnne, of Rutherfordton and Charles ‘Rick’ Critcher and wife, Phyllis, of Fleetwood; sisters, Marcella Anderson of Foscoe and Welda Bishop of Lincolnton; grandchildren, Stephanie Boulanger, Michael, Stacey, David James, Lee, Alison and Lindsey Critcher; great-grandchildren, Trey, Piper and Hadley Boulanger, Hunter and Levi Walters and Tyler McCracken; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Also surviving are special friends, Pastor Delmar James, Clyde Jones, Dr. Gary Pitts, Dipper, and the entire prayer room at Proffitts Grove Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Virginia Miller and Dora Burkett; and nephew, Rev. Keith Miller.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, May 26th, at 2 PM at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Pastor Delmar James and Rev. Rick Critcher. The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon from 12:30 until 2 o’clock, at Austin & Barnes. Graveside services will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Proffitts Grove Baptist Church Benevolent Fund, in care of Elouise Bryan, 1149 Ball Branch Road, Boone, NC 28607.

Rena Hollars Davis (August 28, 1925 – May 22, 2016)

Rena Hollars Davis, age 90, formerly of Deer Haven Road in Zionville, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 22, 2016.

BigDavis, RenaShe was a resident of the Life Care Center of Banner Elk, North Carolina at the time of her death.

Her family wishes to acknowledge the kind nurses and staff at Life Care Center and the hospice team from Medi Home that saw to her comfort and care.

Rena was born on August 28, 1925 in Vilas, North Carolina to Wilson Hollars and Buna Earp Hollars.

Mrs. Davis is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and George Roth of Morganton, NC; one granddaughter and husband, Kirsten and Bobby Boyles of Gastonia, NC; and two great grandchildren, Ryan Romero and Kaitlyn Boyles of Gastonia, NC. She is also survived by one sister, Patricia Willetts of Greensboro, North Carolina; special great niece Marty Rominger; as well as other numerous nieces and nephews. She will be missed by life-long friend Mavis Posey. The family also wishes to acknowledge the loving friendship of Mary Tunnell.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years Ralph Clent Davis. Also waiting to greet her in Heaven are her parents; her infant sister Gloria; brother Creed Hollars; sisters Phyllis Dotson and her husband, McDonald Dotson, Grace Fabisak, and special friend Stella Lawrence.

She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Zionville, NC. Her friend, Rev. Steve LeaShomb, will officiate at her funeral.

Funeral services for Rena Hollars Davis will be conducted Sunday, May 29, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home and Chapel in Boone, N.C. The family will receive friends that afternoon from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Austin & Barnes prior to the services.

A private graveside service will be held for the family at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Hand-n-Hand at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Zionville, NC.

Shelia Daniels (March 30, 1964 – May 22, 2016)

Sheila Ann Daniels, age 52, of Elk Park passed away on May 22, 2016 at her residence.

Shelia-Daniels-1464014109A native of Avery County, she was born March 30, 1964 a daughter of the late Billy Eugene and Anna Mae Beam Daniels.

She was a member of Elk Park First Baptist Church and was a homemaker who enjoyed reading, coloring and loved to cook.

Along with her parents, Sheila was preceded in death by her: sister, Carolyn Daniels and a cousin, Assa Beam.

Sheila has left to cherish her memory her: husband, Darrell Brewer of the home; daughters, Christina Kasper and husband Florian of Austria, Germany, Kimberly Patterson and husband Larry of Roan Mountain, TN.; son, Dalton Daniels of the home; sisters, Tammy Webb and husband Wade of Elk Park, Sharon Brady of Myrtle Beach, SC.; brothers, Billy Daniels and wife Felicia of Boone, Danny Beam and wife Wilma of Spear, Mike Daniels of Elk Park; grandchildren, Delaney Patterson, Adalyn Patterson and Liam Kasper.

Funeral services for Sheila Ann Daniels will be conducted on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at 7:00 pm at the Elk Park First Baptist Church with Rev. Donald Gragg officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 5:00 p.m. until the service hour. Graveside services will be Thursday, May 26th at 11:00 a.m. in the Elk Park Cemetery.

Dorothy A. Galleher, age 89, of Shadowline Drive, Boone, passed away Saturday evening, May 21, 2016 at Watauga Medical Center.

Mrs. Galleher was born August 22, 1926 in Oakland, California, a daughter of the late George Homer Ashley and Amy Mitchell Ashley. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Galleher is survived by her husband, Davis Galleher of Boone; one son, Mike Galleher and wife Debbie of Valle Crucis; and one daughter, Judi Muller and husband Ken of West Jefferson; and five grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by two sons, Donald Paul Galleher and James Davis Galleher, and one grandson, Adam Galleher.

Memorial services for Dorothy A. Galleher will be conducated at a later date in California.

Ella Faye Harmon Combs, age 86, of Mast Gap Road, Sugar Grove, passed away Saturday evening, May 21, 2016 at Glenbridge Health Care.

Ella Faye was born September 21, 1929 in the Beech Creek Community of Watauga County, a daughter of the late Floyd Roscoe Harmon and Virginia Tester Harmon. She was a homemaker, and a member of Westside Baptist Church.

Mrs. Combs is survived by two daughters, Delores Combs Robinson, and Vickie Combs Greene and husband Dana, all of Sugar Grove; one grandson, Jordan Greene and wife Mary of Denver, North Carolina; two granddaughters, Carla Parker and husband Corey, and Keri Lawrence, all of Sugar Grove; four great-granddaughters, Maddie Parker, Anabel Parker, and Anberlynn Lawrence, all of Sugar Grove, and Selene Greene of Denver, North Carolina; two great-grandsons, Alex Greene of Denver, North Carolina and Asher Flahart of Sugar Grove; one nephew, Dennis Harmon and wife Marie of Sugar Grove; and one niece Faye Harmon Pope of Deep Gap.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Raymond Combs, one son-in-law, Gary Robinson, her father and mother, Floyd Roscoe Harmon and Virgie Tester Harmon, two brothers, Roger and Burl Harmon, and one sister, Carrie Harmon White.

Funeral services for Ella Faye Harmon Combs will be conducted Tuesday morning, May 24, 2016 at 11:00 o’clock at Westside Baptist Church. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 10:00 until 11:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Reverend David Ward. Burial will following the Guy-Combs Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday morning, from 10:00 until 11:00 o’clock, at Westside Baptist Church, one hour prior to the service.
