Robert F. “Bob” Oliver
December 26, 1932 – March 25, 2018
Robert F. “Bob” Oliver, age 85, of Old US Highway 421 North, Vilas, passed away Sunday morning, March 25, 2018, at his home.
Bob was born December 26, 1932 in Watauga County, a son of the late Charlie and Pearl Stewart Oliver. He attended Engineering School for Heavy Equipment Operators and was co-owner of Oliver Paving Company in Charlotte. Bob served in the United States Army and was stationed in occupied Germany from 1953-1954 during the Korean War. He was a Master Mason of Snow Lodge #363 and a 32nd degree mason of the Scottish Rite Valley of Winston-Salem. Bob was a Shriner of the Oasis Shrine Temple.
Bob is survived by his wife, Barbara Knight Oliver of the home; three sons, Kenneth Robert Oliver and wife Ruth of Cornelius, David Christopher Oliver of Stanley, and John Gregory Oliver and wife Kim of Zionville; one daughter, Lisa Oliver Hudson and husband Tim of Mooresville; four granddaughters, Candace Brown Shultz, Ashley Brown Turman, Rebecca Oliver Nobles, and Taylor Denise Oliver; four grandsons, Andrew Ryan Oliver, Robert Gregory Oliver, Dylan Christopher Oliver, and Matthew Lane Oliver; three sisters, Margaret Sue Windham and Rose Smith, both of Lincolnton, and Louella Bowman of Yadkinville. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Fred Oliver.
Funeral services for Robert F. “Bob” Oliver will be conducted Tuesday evening, March 27, 2018, at 7:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 5:00 until 7:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Pastor Jim Rash. Masonic graveside rites and burial will be conducted Wednesday morning, at 10:00 o’clock, at Mable United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon, from 5:00 until 7:00 o’clock, at the funeral home, prior to the service.

Shirley Greene Isenhour, age 89, of Boone, passed away Monday evening, March 26, 2018, at Watauga Medical Center.
Shirley was born May 7, 1928 in Watauga County, a daughter of the late Wiley Nathaniel Greene and Joyce Chandler Greene. She attended Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Shirley is survived by one daughter, Susan Anderson of Blowing Rock; two granddaughters, Jill Brueggenjohann and husband Mike of Baldwin, Missouri, and Amy Anderson of Springfield, Missouri; two great-grandchildren, Grant and Madison Brueggenjohann of Baldwin, Missouri; three nieces, Joy Travis and husband Charlie of Blowing Rock, Sharon Wilcox Moulds and husband Bill of Asheville, and Marie Wilcox Woodson and husband Robert of Weaverville, North Carolina, and five nephews, Van Dale and wife Connie of Charlotte, Wallace Wilcox and wife Annette of Asheville, William Wilcox and wife Michelle of Asheville, David Wilcox and wife Pamela of Fletcher, North Carolina, and Thomas Greene and wife Cathy of Vero Beach, Florida.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Isenhour, and two sisters, Thelma Dale and Pauline Wilcox.
A celebration of life for Shirley Greene Isenhour will be conducted Saturday afternoon, March 31, 2018, at 2:00 o’clock, at Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church. Officiating will be Reverend Katherine Beach.
The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon, from 1:00 until 2:00 o’clock, at the church, prior to the service.

Coolidge Cornett
July 04, 1927 – March 26, 2018
Coolidge Cornett, age 90, of Stone Mountain Road, Vilas, passed away Monday morning, March 26, 2018, at his home.
Coolidge was born July 4, 1927 in Watauga County, a son of the late Roby and Lily Whitaker Cornett. He was a retired owner and operator of a sawmill and was a farmer. Coolidge served in the United States Army and was a member of Mountain Dale Baptist Church.
Coolidge is survived by two daughters, Zola Reece of Butler, Tennessee and Brenda Dancy and husband Gary of Zionville; two sons, Ricky Cornett and Dexter Cornett and wife Dina, all of Vilas; two granddaughters, Donna Skillman and husband Blair of Vilas, and Crystal Holmes and husband Kelly of Winston-Salem; two grandsons, David Reece and wife Michelle of Butler, Tennessee and Stanley Dancy of Zionville, and one brother, Emory Cornett, Sr. of Vilas. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father and mother, he was preceded in death by his wife, Fay James Cornett; five brothers, Bill, Homer, Andy, Berlie, and Barney Cornett, and three sisters, Ollie Cornett, Bessie Yarber, and Ethel Yarber.
Funeral services for Coolidge Cornett will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, March 28, 2018, at 2:00 o’clock, at Mountain Dale Baptist Church. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 1:00 until 2:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Pastor Eric Cornett and Pastor Daniel Lawrence. Military graveside rites and burial, provided by American Legion Post 130 and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 90, will follow in Mountain Dale Baptist Church Cemetery.

March 28, 1930 – March 23, 2018
Faye Guy Phillips, age 87, of Newland, North Carolina, the Cranberry Community, passed away on Friday, March 23, 2018 at the Life Care Center of Banner Elk.
She was born on March 28, 1930 in Avery County, North Carolina, a daughter the late Ora Bell Guy.
She was a member of the Belview Baptist Church. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time in her flowers and her garden.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Phillips; sons, Randall Glenn Phillips, Tony Ray Phillips; brother, Earl Stout.
Faye leaves behind to cherish her memory: Daughter, Sherry McCoury of Roan Mountain, TN, Daughter, Brenda Smith of Cranberry, NC, Daughter, Lorenda (David) McGuire of Cranberry, NC, Son, Charles (Cleta) Phillips of Morganton, NC, Son, Darrell (Deborah) Phillips of Cranberry, NC, Son, Dean Phillips of Covington, VA, Son, Wesley (Teresa) Phillips of Morganton, NC, Sister, Sue Ward of Lenoir, NC, Sister, Polly South of Hudson, NC; fourteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Services for Faye Guy Phillips will be held on Monday, March 26, 2018 at 7:00 pm at the Cranberry Baptist Church with Rev. David Burnop and Rev. Tull Oakes officiating. Music will be under the direction of Alesia Calloway and Michael Burnop.
The family will receive friends beginning at 6:00 pm on Monday evening at the Cranberry Baptist Church.
Family, friends, and Pallbearers will gather at the church at 10:15 am on Tuesday morning to go in procession to the Cranberry Cemetery. The graveside service will be held at 11 am.
The family would like to thank the Nurses and Staff of Medi Home Hospice, the staff of Gentiva Home Health, and their extended family at the Life Care Center of Banner Elk for the wonderful care provided to Faye.

August 25, 1966 – March 24, 2018
Sammy Lee Atkins, age 51, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at his home.
He was born on August 25, 1966 in Avery County, North Carolina, a son of the late Edith Atkins.
Sammy will be remembered by all those who’s life he touched. He was a wonderful son, husband, dad, brother and friend. He always had a smile on his face along with whoever he encountered with his sense of humor.
Sammy leaves behind to cherish his memory his: Wife, Julie Hughes Atkins of Elizabethton, TN; his children, Sammy (Whitney) Atkins, Jr, Dustin Atkins, Chasity Atkins and Morgan (Steven) Hill. Along with his brother and sisters.

Annie Louella Johnson Hicks, 81 formally of Elk Park, North Carolina passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at Autumn Care in Drexel, NC.
She was born on May 13, 1936 in Avery County, North Carolina, a daughter of Jesse James Johnson and Ruth Turbyfill Johnson.
Annie worked in the glove factory in Banner Elk. She loved the Lord and singing in the choir. She used to walk with her children seven miles round trip to church. Annie loved spending time with her family and cooking. She loved watching her cockatiel Clyde.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her Husband, Carl Herman Hicks and her oldest son Wayne Hicks; Grandson: Darrell Wayne Hicks, Brother; Bobby James Johnson; Sister; Lola Mae Johnson, Granddaughter; Amanda McKinney
