Shirley Mae Daniels Woody (April 24, 1939 – June 5, 2017)
Shirley Mae Daniels Woody, 78 of Morganton, North Carolina passed away on Monday, June 5, 2017 at her residence.
She was born on April 24, 1939 in Avery County, North Carolina, the daughter of Donald and Mabel Ollis Daniels. Shirley was a homemaker that enjoyed fishing in her spare time.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents.
Shirley leaves behind to cherish her memory her: Husband Auto Woody of Morganton, NC; Sons, Bobby Woody (Mary Hardin) fiance of Morganton, NC, Daniel Joe (Victoria Lynn) Woody of Morganton, NC, J.D. Shirley also left to cherish her memory 10 Grandchildren and 2 Great-Grandchildren.
Services for Shirley Woody will be held on Thursday June 8, 2017 at 3:00 at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 before the service.
Interment will be in the Daniels Cemetery following the service.

Joyce Mae Moore (April 03, 1935 – June 05, 2017)
Joyce Mae Moore, age 82, of Stone Mountain Road, Vilas, passed away Monday morning, June 5, 2017, at her home.
Joyce is survived by one sister, Joann Moore of Vilas, and three brothers, Landon Moore of Detroit, Michigan, Joe Louis Moore and wife Mickie of Shelbyville, Tennessee, and Johnny Lee Moore of Vilas. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Ulyless and Addie McQueen Moore; three sisters, Nancy Moore Burkett, Lillian Moore, and Carolyn Moore, and five brothers, William Franklin, Clarence, Eddie, Grady, and Robert Moore.
Funeral services for Joyce Mae Moore will be conducted Thursday afternoon, June 8, 2017, at 2:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 1:00 until 2:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Reverend Matthew Machen, Reverend Mike Mathes, and Reverend Charlie Martin. Burial will follow in the Moore Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon, from 1:00 until 2:00 o’clock, at the funeral home, prior to the service.

Rita G Clark (Sept. 6, 1937 – June 5, 2017)
Rita G. Clark, 79 of Lenoir, North Carolina passed away on Monday, June 5, 2017
She was born on September 16, 1937 in Avery County, North Carolina, the daughter of Warren E Guinn and Zilly Williams Guinn.
Rita was a member of New Hopewell Baptist Church. She enjoyed working in the garden and in the flowers.
She was preceded in death by her Husband, Hubert Clark; Father: Warren E Guinn; Mother: Zilly M Guinn; Daughter; Mary Sue Morgan;
Rita leaves behind to cherish her memory her: Daughters, Phyllis Brewer of Minneapolis, NC, Kathy (Harold Vance) Greene of Elk Park, NC Betty (Johnny) Crump, Lenoir, NC, Brenda (Phillip) Scott of Lenoir, Son:Hubert Clark, Jr. of Lenoir NC Brothers: Gary Guinn of Elk Park NC, Warren Guinn of Greenville, SC.

David Ray “Dave” Roberts (May 5, 1953 – June 4, 2017)
David Ray Roberts, of Boone, NC, passed away on June 4, 2017 at the age of 64 years.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, June 7 at Boone United Methodist Church with a celebration of his life following the service.
Dave married Jean Hord Roberts on August 5, 1989 and they lived “out loud and in love” for 27 amazing years.
Dave is survived by his wife, Jean; his children: Davis Roberts, Ivy Mauney, Amber Winkler, Nathan Winkler (granddaughter Logan); his sister, Joyce Roberts Greene; many nieces and nephews; as well as extended family and a boatload of friends.
Dave earned his AA degree from Caldwell Community College and attended Appalachian State University. He was a longtime affiliate of Tennille and Associates.
Dave was the best of a loving community. He was happy to welcome you into his home and delighted that you would spend time with him and those he loved the most. His humor was renowned – from the Boone Drug King Street Boys to the Boone Golf Course – and his Andy Griffith inspired humor kept all humbled. Most importantly, Dave never made anyone feel small. He honored people and made friends wherever he went.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Violet Roberts as well as his sister, Dorothy Roberts Davis.

During Dave’s time in the hospital, he received attentive and heartfelt care from an Appalachian and Student Support Services alumnae, Hannah Sheets Adams `14. Hannah, a first generation college graduate and recipient of the inaugural Kenneth E. Peacock Spirit of ACCESS Award, embodies the type of person the fund will support. Hannah demonstrates compassion, integrity, and grace on a daily basis, and these characteristics are the focus of the Dave Roberts Memorial Fund.

Pearl Brown Norris (April 27, 1932 – June 2, 2017)
Pearl Brown Norris, 85, of Howards Creek Church Road, Boone, passed away Friday evening, June 2, 2017 at Deerfield Ridge Assisted Living.
Born April 27, 1932 in Avery County, she was a daughter of William Oren and Allie Jones Brown. Pearl attended Howards Creek Primary School and graduated from Appalachian High School. Mrs. Norris was a life-long member of Howards Creek Baptist Church. After retiring as the Administrative Assistant of Wilcox Natural Products, she worked for a time at Samaritans Purse.
Mrs. Norris is survived by her daughter, Lisa Clements and husband, Roland Koch of Boone; son, Greg Norris of Big Stone Gap, VA; and grandsons, Eli and Jacob Norris and Dylan Clements and great grandson, Evan Norris; sister, Gerry Wilcox and husband Kenneth of Boone; and sisters-in-law, Helen Brown of Boone and Mavis Calloway of Fayetteville, Ga. A number of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Norris; sisters, Faye Greene, Frost Norris, Gladys Payne and Thelma Greene; and brothers, Steve, Roby and Wilson Brown. Funeral services for Pearl Brown Norris will be conducted Monday morning, June 5th, at 11 oclock at Howards Creek Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Chris Reinolds, Rev. Joe London and John Mough. Burial will follow in the Howards Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Carolyn Johnson Pyatte (March 30, 1944 – June 1, 2017)
Carolyn Johnson Pyatte age 73 of Newland, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 1, 2017 at Johnson City Medical Center.
A native of Avery County she was born March 30, 1944 the daughter of the late Fred and Florence Grindstaff Johnson. Carolyn was a loving wife and mother, awesome grandmother and faithful friend.
Her life was her Lord Jesus, the Holy Bible and her family and church. Carolyn was known as a prayer warrior with unshakeable faith. She instilled to all how important it is to have a relationship with the Lord Jesus. Carolyn’s hobbies included sewing, collecting dolls and collecting salt and pepper shakers.
Along with her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her: Brothers: Homer Johnson, Fred Johnson Jr., Auta Lee Johnson. Sister Flora Mae Johnson.
Carolyn has left to cherish her memory her husband of 53 years Kenneth Pyatte of the home. One son Ronnie Pyatte and wife Missy of Newland. One granddaughter Canaan Pyatte of Elizabethton TN; Many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Carolyn Pyatte will be Sunday June 4, 2017 at 7:00 at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with Pastor’s officiating: Allen King, Bryant Collins and Don Trexler.
The family will receive friends Sunday June 4, 2017 from 5 to 7 p.m.
Interment will be at Fork Mountain Cemetery, Newland NC on Monday June 6, 2017 at 11:00. Family and friends are to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 A.M. Procession to the cemetery.

Phong Thoai Huynh (Dec. 12, 1976 – May 31, 2017)
Phong Thoai Huynh, 40, of Coffey Ridge Drive, Blowing Rock, passed away Wednesday afternoon, May 31, 2017, at his home.
Phong was born Dec. 12, 1976 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, a son of Thanh Cam Huynh and Hai Khong. He was employee of Hokido Japanese Restaurant in Boone.
Phong is survived by his son, Gia Phu Huynh of the home; his older sister, Linh Huynh; his brother-in-law, Quan Tang; his older brother, Minh Huynh, and his sister-in-law, Loi Ho, all of Blowing Rock.
Hmong services for Phong Thoai Huynh will be conducted Friday morning, June 2, 2017, at 8:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel.

Nancy Jo Coyle (March 11, 1951 – May 28, 2017)
Nancy Jo Coyle, 66, of Charlie Thompson Rd., Vilas, passed away Sunday afternoon, May 28, 2017 at Watauga Medical Center. Born March 11, 1951 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, she was a daughter of Gordon Joseph and Rose Maxine Dean Kullmann (Glasson).
Before retirement, Nancy was manager of Able Body Labor. She was a member of the Cove Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Cove Creek First Responders and Cove Creek Fire Department Womens Auxiliary. She also was a member of the Boone Moose Lodge and served as a past president of the Women of the Moose. Nancy Jos life was her family and she held a very special place in her heart for her dogs and horses.
Ms. Coyle is survived by her daughter, Shannon Glenn and husband, William, of Vilas; son, Jay Coyle and wife Janice of Shippensburg, PA; daughter, Sue Coyle Avaritt and husband, Eric, of Camp Hill, PA; brother, Charles Robert Kullmann and wife, Sandy, of Trade, TN. six grandchildren, Lucas, Liam, and Lennie Glenn, Jessie Glenn and wife, Amanda, Ashley Glenn Coffey and husband, Israel, and April Glenn Michael and husband, Noah; four great grandchildren, Blake, Israel, Eternity and Jesse Glenn; and two nieces, Rebecca Kullmann and Heidi Sherwood.
Funeral services for Nancy Jo Coyle will be conducted Friday afternoon, June 2nd at 2 oclock at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Zionville.
