Ann W. Shipman
(June 22, 1961 – July 21, 2018)

Ann Winebarger Shipman passed away peacefully at home on the morning of July 21, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband, Steve; sons, Michael and Nicholas of the home; sisters, Jan Pendley and Sandy Swift; nieces: Kristin Pendley, Taylor Cornell, and Mary Beth Shipman: and nephews: Kevin Pendley, Davy Cornell, Robert Shipman, and Collin Shipman. She was preceded in death by her father, Fred Winebarger; mother Wilma; cousin, Tony Winebarger; brothers-in-law, Mike Pendley and Dana Swift; and sister-in-law, Cindy Shipman. Ann grew up on a farm near Boone, NC, and learned the value of hard work at an early age. She was an outstanding athlete at Watauga High School and attended Appalachian State University on scholarships for softball and volleyball. She was smart, strong, competitive, and tough. Those traits were on display throughout her life. She worked in the food service business her entire career and developed herself into an accomplished manager and sales professional, most recently with Halperns Steak and Seafood. She expected nothing less than excellence from herself and those around her, and her customers and co-workers loved her for it. Ann was also the consummate vacation planner with a particular fondness for sea and sand! More importantly, Ann was a beautiful person – outgoing, caring, thoughtful, and generous. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, and aunt. She made new friends wherever she went and would do anything in her power to help a friend in need. Her family will always miss the love, kindness, and energy that she brought into their lives every day. Sign online guestbook: www.mackeymortuary.com.
