Carolyn Osborne Watson (April 15, 1944 – July 25, 2016)

Carolyn Osborne Watson, 72, formerly of Mountain View Baptist Church, Deep Gap, passed away Monday morning, July 25, 2016 at Life Care Center of Banner Elk.

Born April 15, 1944 in Watauga County, Carolyn was a daughter of Cleve and Nora Greene Osborne. Mrs. Osborne was a member of Faith Baptist Church. She was caregiver, working in both private homes and nursing facilities. Her love in life was her family and grandchildren. She so enjoyed seeing them happy. Carolyn was a loving person who tended her vegetable gardens to prepare produce for her family meals.

Mrs. Watson is survived by her daughter, Linda Winebarger and husband, Jeff, of Deep Gap; son, Junior Watson of Mountain City; brother, Buck Osborne and wife, Ann, of Lenoir; and five grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Thomas Watson, Sr., son, Tommy Watson; and 13 brothers and sisters.

Funeral arrangements for Carolyn Watson are incomplete.

Richard Wesley Harper (Sept. 17, 1934 – July 24, 2016)

Mr. Richard Wesley Harper, 81, of Cobbs Creek Road, Boone, passed away Sunday evening, July 24, 2016, at Watauga Medical Center.

Richard was born September 17, 1934 in Miami, Florida, son of the late Eddie and Joyce Hopkins Harper. He served in the US Coast Guard, retired from the computer center at Appalachian State University and enjoyed spending time outside, working with his hands and gathering around the dinner table with his family.

Richard is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patricia Harper of the home; one daughter, Kathleen Hineman of Boone; three granddaughters, Holly Hineman of New Orleans, Louisiana, Amanda Harper and Haylee Hineman, both of Boone; a daughter-in-law, Cindy Harper of Boone, and a special friend, Johnny Miller.

He was preceded in death by one son, Ricky Harper; his father and mother, Eddie and Joyce Hopkins Harper, and a sister, Shirley Anne Huss.

A memorial receiving of friends for Mr. Richard Harper, will be held Thursday afternoon, from 4:00 until 5:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. Military honors, provided by American Legion Post 130 and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 90, will follow.

Flowers are appreciated, or memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice in honor of Richard.

Lillian Lockhart Watson (June 12, 1935 – July 24, 2016)

Mrs. Lillian Lockhart Watson, 81, of Wildwood Drive, Deep Gap, passed away Sunday evening, July 24, 2016, at Watauga Medical Center.

Mrs. Watson was born June 12, 1935 in Chippewa, Michigan, a daughter of the late Clarence A. Lockhart and Annie LaGace Lockhart. She was a former machine operator at TRW/IRC, and a member of Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church.

Mrs. Watson is survived by her husband, Roser Blake Watson, of the home; one son, Cecil Watson of Pennsylvania; three daughters, Janet Trivette and Linda Watson of Deep Gap, and Mary Hodges of Wilkesboro; six grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Clarence A. Lockhart and Annie LaGace Lockhart, a daughter, Barbara Ann Watson, a sister, Jean Piche, and a grandson, Blake Connely “B.C.” Watson.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lillian Lockhart Watson will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, July 27, 2016 at 2:00 o’clock at Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church. Officiating will be Reverend Eric Proffit. Burial will follow in the Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon, from 1:00 until 2:00, at the church, one hour prior to the service.

Harry E. Noblett (Oct. 1, 1949 – July 24, 2016)

Mr. Harry Edward Noblett, age 66, of Boone, passed away Sunday, July 24, 2016.

He was a native of Avery County and the son of the late Raymond Eugene and Callie Church Noblett. Harry was a well known figure in and around the Big G Game Room in Boone.

He is survived by two brothers, Gary Wayne Noblett of Montezuma and

Larry Eugene Noblett of Bristol, TN.

He is also survived by close friends, Elvin and Sheila Hundley, Glen Triplett and Junior Wilcox.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Fannie McKee (May 15, 1932 – July 21, 2016)

Fannie McKee, 84, of Banner Elk passed away on July 21, 2016 at Life Care Center of Banner Elk.

A native of Johnson City, Tenn., she was born May 15, 1932 a daughter of the late James K. Polk and Binia Nancy Hammit Toney.

She attended Emanuel Baptist and First Baptist Church of Newland. She enjoyed cooking, farming, and sewing.

Along with her parents, Fannie was preceded in death by her: Brother, Leonard Toney and sisters: Annabelle, Josephine, and Libby Toney.

Fannie has left to cherish her memory her: Son, Larry McKee of Newland, NC, Daughter, Brenda Mckee of Columbia, SC, Sisters: Lillian Green of Johnson City, TN; Judie Fletcher of Jonesboro, TN; and Granddaughter; Jennifer Mckee of Lenoir, NC

A Graveside service for Fannie McKee will be conducted on Sunday July, 24 2016 at 4PM in the Elk Park Cemetery.

Ernie Lee Rhymer (Oct. 09, 1944 – July 20, 2016)

3819260_fbsErnie Lee Rhymer, 71, of Shacktown Road, Yadkinville, a native and former resident of Watauga County, passed away Wednesday afternoon, July 20, 2016, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem.

Ernie was born October 9, 1944 in Watauga County, a son of the late Charlie Dickson Rhymer and Mattie Wheeler Rhymer. He was developer, builder, and manager of the Land of Oz and Beech Mountain from 1970 until 1975.

Ernie was the owner of Rhymer Construction and purchasing agent for Banner Elk Construction from 1975 until 1979. He served as Senior Vice-President of construction and real estate for Quality Oil Company, in Winston-Salem, from 1979 until the present.

Ernie was a member of Deep Creek Baptist Church in Yadkinville.

Ernie is survived by three daughters, Tiffany Hill and husband Wayne of Yadkinville, Kristi Rhymer of Hamptonville, and Tara Rhymer of Asheville; one granddaughter, Madison Hill of Yadkinville; three grandsons, Jake Hill of Banner Elk, Alex Hobson of Hamptonville, and Caden Cook of Asheville; two brothers, Stewart Rhymer and wife Joyce of Deep Gap, Ken Rhymer and wife Pat of Boone, and one sister, Carolyn Harrison of Lenoir.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Connie Holtsclaw Rhymer; four brothers, Clise, Conard, Claude, and Gwyn Rhymer, and five sisters, Della Hartley, Georgia Wheeler, Opal Triplett, Maggie Triplett, and Tansy Ragan.

Funeral services for Ernie Lee Rhymer will be conducted Sunday afternoon, July 24, 2016, at 3:00 o’clock, at Laurel Springs Baptist Church in Deep Gap, North Carolina. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 1:30 until 2:45.

Officiating will be Reverend Andy Lambert, Reverend Dwayne Lankford, and Pastor Travis Suits. Entombment will follow in Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens Mausoleum in Boone.

The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon, from 1:30 until 2:45, at the church, prior to the service.

Donna J. Winebarger (Dec. 23, 1942 – July 20, 2016)

Donna Jean Winebarger, 73, of Boone, NC, born December 23, 1942, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 after her second battle with cancer. Donna was a native of Gallipolis, Ohio and graduated from North Gallia High School in 1961 and Gallipolis Business College in 1970.

BigWinebarger, donnaShe had a passion for cooking and loved to feed her friends and family. She enjoyed cutting grass on her riding lawn mower, riding motorcycles, and lets not forget her witty sense of humor when debating politics. Donna was a dedicated hard worker, and retired from I.R.C. and Appalachian State University.

Donna was preceded in death by her husband Victor Winebarger Sr. of Boone, NC and her parents Garrett and Dorothy Sheets of Gallipolis, OH. She is survived by her son, Victor F. Winebarger Jr. and wife Angela of Clover, SC and her daughter, Michelle (Shelley) Huggins and husband Jerry of Boone, NC. Together her children blessed her with four wonderful grandchildren and one great granddaughter. She also has two step children from her late husband, Victor Winebarger Sr., Dorothy Dancy and husband James of Vilas, NC and the late Jerry Winebarger who is survived by his wife Patricia of Boonesmill, VA and together they also have five wonderful grandchildren.

Donna is also survived by her two sisters Doris Wilkins and husband Roy of Rio Grande, OH and Patricia Confer and husband Robert of Springfield, OH whom she held very dear to her heart.

Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 12 p.m. in the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services from 11-12 p.m. in the funeral home.
