Mildred F. Ragsdale 
(October 05, 1932 – August 7, 2018) 

    Mildred Ragsdale of Boone, North Carolina, affectionately known as Mimi, flew into the arms of her beloved Savior at age 85. She finished the race well and was a good and faithful servant to the end of her journey here. During her final days, she sang out hymns of praise. She was surrounded by loved ones in her home at 3647 Jakes Mountain Road, Boone, NC.
    Mimi was born on October 5, 1932 in Flint, Michigan. She is preceded in death by her parents Edward and Sarah Ragsdale and her sister Helen Worak.
    Mimi had many gifts including nursing and teaching physical education. She loved to hike and travel and led an adventurous life. She was an animal lover and had many dogs over the years. She had wonderful insight and wisdom as well as a keen sense of humor. Her greatest gift was her desire and compassion to show others the way to know Jesus!
    She is survived by her Niece Wendy David and husband Al of El Cajon, CA and Niece Suzanne Novack of Troy Michigan and great nephews Bryce Novak and, Ryan Novak and A.J. and Nick David , as well as long-time friends Sharon Dingledein of Bradenton, Florida and Wayne Coffey of Boone North Carolina. She had numerous beloved friends and her group of Sisters loved by God.
    There will be a celebration of life memorial service at her home that she shared with Gary and Joanie Kilkelly at 3647 Jakes Mountain Road, Boone, NC, Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 2:00 at the home address. Pastor Scott Andrews of Alliance Bible Fellowship, Boone, NC will speak. 
    In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Alliance Bible Fellowship benevolence fund Boone, NC or Watauga County Humane Society in honor of Ben, her beloved canine companion.

Mr. Stacy C. Eggers, Jr. 
(March 20, 1924 – August 7, 2018) 

    Mr. Stacy Clyde Eggers, Jr., age 94, of Boone, passed away, Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at Watauga Medical Center. Born March 20, 1924 in Watauga County, he was a son of the late Stacy Clyde Eggers, Sr., and Nora South Eggers. Mr. Eggers was a US Army Air Corps Veteran, during WWII having attained the rank of Sergeant. On June 1, 1950 Stacy opened his law practice which is now Eggers, Eggers, Eggers and Eggers Attorneys at Law. He served nine years as councilor of the North Carolina State Bar for the 24th Judicial District, and five years on the Client Security Fund. He was also active and had a number of leadership roles with the NC State Bar. 
    Stacy also served as a Trustee for the Watauga County Hospital in 1966 when the hospital moved to its current location. He was also serving on the hospital board from 1974 until 1980 during which time the hospital was renovated. Mr. Eggers served on the Boone Board of Elections and was a member of the Boone Rotary Club. He was a life member and former commander of the American Legion Post. He was also Judge Advocate of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. 
    He is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Eggers-Gryder and husband Kelvin of Boone, Marianna E. Isaacs and husband Tom of Vilas, one daughter in law, Margaret Eggers of Boone, seven grandchildren; Stacy C. Eggers, IV and wife Kim, Austin F. Eggers and wife Michelle, Luke B. Eggers, Braxton D. Eggers and wife Sara, Casey T. Isaacs, Daniel Gryder and wife Anel, and Grady E. Isaacs, and eight great grandchildren. 
    In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth Bingham Eggers, two sons, Bergen Mast Eggers and Stacy Clyde Eggers, III, one grandson, Travis Jake Gryder, four sisters, Laura Eggers, Beulah Jean Eggers, Christine Simons and Margaret E. Perry, and one brother, Morris Emsley Eggers. 
    Funeral services for Mr. Stacy Clyde Eggers, Jr., will be conducted Friday afternoon, August 10, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church. Officiating will be Rev. Jeff Smith. Burial with military graveside rites provided by American Legion Post 130 and DAV Chapter 90 will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens. 
    The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5 PM until 8 PM at the First Presbyterian Church. 
    The respectfully requests no food. Amanda Norris Norman 
(March 13, 1980 – August 10, 2018) 

    Amanda Lynn Norris Norman, age 38, of Milton Brown Heirs Rd., Boone, passed away Friday afternoon, August 10, 2018. Amanda was born March 13, 1980 in Watauga County. She was of the Baptist faith. Amanda was a certified nursing assistant, working in hospitals and doctors’ offices. Most recently, she provided in home health care. Always full of love and life, she would always light up any room she walked into. She enjoyed spending time with family, and loved her daughter, Savannah, with all her heart. 
    Amanda is survived by her daughter, Savannah Lynn Norman of Boone and Savannah’s father, Jake Luther Norman of Banner Elk; parents, David and Kathy Norris Hayes of Boone; brother, Christopher Hayes and wife, Kendra, of Boone; nieces, Madason, Makenlea and Maylea Hayes, all of Boone; aunts, Linda Nadeau and husband, Keith, of Lenoir, Susan and Edward McDaris, and Rosie Hayes, all 
    of Morganton, Rachel Newman and husband, Eddie, and Susan Fuentes and husband, Gustavo, all of Boone. Several uncles and cousins also survive. 
    She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Ray and Mandy Norris, paternal grandparents, Ruth and Orris Hayes; uncle, James Norris; and aunt, Betty Brown. 
    Funeral services for Amanda Norris Norman will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, August 15th, at 2 o’clock at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Chapel, officiated by Rev. T. J. Jackson. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1 until 2 o’clock, prior to services, at Austin & Barnes. Burial will follow in the Yates-Hampton Cemetery. At other times, the family will be at the home of her parents, David and Kathy Hayes, Milton Brown Heirs Road in Boone.

Perry Alfred Adams, Sr. 
(May 23, 1938 – August 10, 2018) 

    Perry Alfred Adams, Sr., age 80, of Adams Road, Vilas, passed away Friday morning, August 10, 2018 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
    Born May 23, 1938 in Watauga County, he was a son of Dolph and Ellen McNeil Adams. Perry was a building contractor and partner of Beach & Adams Builders in Boone. He enjoyed gardening, farming, raising beef cattle, tobacco and cabbage. He served faithfully as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher at Brushy Fork Baptist Church. Always proud to be called a Veteran, Perry served in the US Air Force, earning the rank E-4 Airman during the cold war era, stationed in Iceland, California, Texas and Illinois. His specialty was 58150 Parachute Rigger. For his service, he was awarded the Good Conduct Metal/SO A-27/7 JAN 60/60/12th ADIV.
    Mr. Adams is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Mary Frances Hartley Adams; son, Perry Adams, Jr. of Vilas; daughter, Melissa (Missy) Adams Whitley and husband, Chris Whitley, Jr., and granddaughter, Ashlyn Whitley, all of Prosperity, SC; sisters, Rachel Combs and Glenda Aldridge and husband Elmer, all of Vilas, and Minnie Mercer of Alaska; brother, Everett Adams and wife Gladys, of Trade, TN; and half-brother, Bill Adams of Mountain City, TN. A number of nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. 
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Bonnie Beach, Mary Rominger, Janie Broyhill and infants, Betty and Evelyn Mae; brothers, Dave and Bob Adams; special nephew, Brian Aldridge; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Burl and Claty Baird Hartley.
    As Mr. Adams requested, graveside services with Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post #130 will be conducted Sunday afternoon, August 12, 2018, at 2 oclock at the Adams Cemetery in Vilas, officiated by Rev. John Mark Brown, Pastor Peter Vandenberg and Rev. Toby Oliver. Following graveside services, the family will gather at the Brushy Fork Baptist Church Fellowship Hall until 4 p.m. The family respectfully requests no flowers and suggests memorials to the Adams Cemetery Fund in care of Johnny Hayes, 171 Laurel Fork Road, Vilas, NC 28692, or to the American Legion Post #130, 135 Bear Trail, Boone, NC 28607.
    Special Thanks to the staff of Wake Forest Baptist Health Cancer Center 8, Oncology ICU Department in Winston-Salem for their compassionate care shown to Perry and his family.

Mrs. Lorene B. Greer 
(April 11, 1928 – August 12, 2018) 

    Mrs. Lorene Blake Greer, age 90, of Boone passed away Sunday, August 12, 2018 at her home. Born April 11, 1928 in Helen, West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Russell and Carrie Lee Cressorn Blake. Mrs. Greer was retired from IRC/TRW and was a member of Greenway Baptist Church. Lorene enjoyed gardening, flowers, reading and crocheting. Her greatest joy was her family whom she loved dearly. 
    She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Glenn Greer and four children, Kay Hollars, Carol Michael, Chris Greer and Sue Davis, seven grandchildren, Lisa Dancy, Kim Baird, David Hollars, Scott Baird, Mark Hollars, Kevin Hollars and Carrie Hagaman, nine great grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren and one brother, Dick Blake and wife Lorraine of Cleveland Ohio. 
    Funeral services for Mrs. Lorene Greer will be conducted Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at 11 AM at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Harold Bennett. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10 am until 11 am. Burial will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens. Memorials may be made to Medi-Home Hospice.

Mary Ann Perry Smith

January 19, 1941 – August 09, 2018

Mary Ann Perry Smith, age 77, of Rominger Road, Banner Elk, passed away Thursday afternoon, August 9, 2018, at Life Care Center of Banner Elk.

Mary Ann was born January 19, 1941 in Avery County, daughter of the late Thomas Hampton Perry and Belle Stewart Perry. She was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse and a member of Matney-Liberty Church. Mary Ann cared for and helped the neighbors in her community with their medical needs. 

Mary Ann is survived by one daughter, Kimberly Grace Smith of Banner Elk; one son, Gregory Smith of Banner Elk; one brother, Joe H. Perry and wife Evanell of Banner Elk, and one sister-in-law, Odleen Perry of Banner Elk. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell V. Smith, and two brothers, Robert Lee Perry and Thomas H. Perry.

Funeral services for Mary Ann Perry Smith will be conducted Sunday afternoon, August 12, 2018, at 2:30 o’clock, at Valley Haven Baptist Church in Banner Elk. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 1:30 until 2:30 o’clock. Burial will follow in the Valley Haven Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening, from 6:00 until 8:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Service.

In addition to his parents, Liam is survived by his paternal grandparents, Elizabeth Ann Scott and her husband Doug of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina, and his paternal grandparents, Stephen Mark Turner and Mechell Anne Turner of Peachland, North Carolina.

Jo Anne Johnson
November 29, 1945 – August 9, 2018

Jo Anne Johnson, age 72, of Crossnore, North Carolina passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville, NC.

She was born on November 29, 1945 in Washington County, Tennessee, a daughter of Moryl Johnson and Charlotte Bowman Johnson.

Jo attended Crossnore Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels, weekly breakfasts with her dear friend Joda Ollis, gardening and nature, reading and studying her Bible, hiking, and pets. Jo loved to create beautiful and elaborate tea luncheons. She deeply loved her family, friends, cats, and, most of all, the Lord, and she always maintained a spirit of being “so thankful” no matter what came her way.

She will be greatly missed by her family and this community. 

Jo was preceded in death by her parents. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter, Tasha Reid of Raleigh and Newland, NC; beloved “grand-dog” Rolo; sister, Brenda (Randy) Sessions of Stone Mountain, GA; nieces, Michelle Sessions of Kennesaw, GA and Crystal (Daniel) Floyd of Stone Mountain, GA; great-niece, Sadie Floyd of Stone Mountain, GA; and many dearly loved cousins.

A memorial service for Jo will be held on Friday August 17, 2018 at 4 PM in the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kathy Campbell officiating. The Visitation will be on Friday August 17, 2018 starting at 3 PM and going until the service hour at 4 PM. Inurnment will be in the John Johnson Cemetery at a later date.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to the wonderful staff of Cannon Memorial Hospital and the Waters of Roan Highlands Nursing Center.

Robert Thomas (Tom) Wise
November 4, 1925 – August 10, 2018

Robert Thomas (Tom) Wise, age 92, of Newland, North Carolina passed away on Friday, August 10, 2018 at Life Care Center of Banner Elk in Banner Elk, NC.

He was born on November 4, 1925 a son of the late Otis and Ellen Ford Wise.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Benfield Wise; Three brothers, Ben, Milton (Skeeze ) and Dock Wise; One sister Gay Wise Franklin. 

He retired from Underwood & Weld after 35 years of service, as a diesel truck mechanic. 
Tom leaves behind to cherish his memory his: Children; Pat (Shuf) Carpenter, Tommie Richardson, Robert Wise Jr. and Debbie (Jerry) Dotson.
One brother; Lowell (Linda) Wise; Three sisters; Roberta Aldridge, Leota Coffey and Phyllis Blackburn.
7 Grandchildren and 10 Great-Grandchildren
Several nieces and nephews. 

Services for Tom Wise will be held on Sunday August 12, 2018 in the Chapel of Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home beginning at 3PM with Pastor Roger Wise officiating. 
The family will receive friends on Sunday August 12, 2018 starting at 1PM and will go up until the service hour at 3PM.
Interment will follow in Newland Cemetery.
