Watauga Arts Council Offers Arts Education Opportunities

Oct. 8, 2014. The Watauga County Arts Council’s Fall Art Education Series is still going strong with ongoing drawing classes, after school art education activities, and music lessons as well as upcoming workshops which you’ll want to sign up for right away!

Ongoing Drawing Classes, Music Lessons, and After-School Art:

The ongoing drawing classes, after school activities, and music lessons are designed so you (or your child) can jump into them at any point along the way. Katherine Marx and David Smith are able to take in new students and work with them at any point. Katherine is teaching drawing lessons for children and conducting after-school art activities for children ages 7-12. David is teaching mandolin and/or guitar for all ages.

Workshops:

The upcoming workshops feature a good variety of art forms designed to appeal to artists as well as to those who have never really dabbled in the arts.

image001Landscape Painting in Acrylics: Pat Grant is leading a workshop on how to paint landscapes in acrylic on Fridays, Oct.  10-24 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Fun with Gourds: Pat Moritz is leading a one-day workshop on how to make beautiful creations from a plain, ordinary gourd on Wednesdays, Oct. 22 and 29.

Chalk Painting:  Tracy Woodruff is offering an opportunity to first learn more about the entire process of chalk painting through a one-session demo and intro on Thursday, Oct. 23 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Then, for those who would enjoy actually trying their hand, she’s offering a full three-session workshop on Thursdays, Oct. 30 through Nov. 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

All Aspects of Drawing:   Raney Rogers is presenting a one-day workshop designed to take you back to the very basics and introduce you to the concept of drawing as a precursor to paint (or you can simply choose to keep on drawing). This workshop is planned for Saturday, Nov. 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Design Your Own Scarf: Pat Moritz is leading this one-session workshop on Wednesday, Nov. 5 from 1-4p.m. You’ll learn the process for taking a plain white silk scarf, a few sharpie markers, and a little magic….and producing a gorgeous fall accessory or perhaps a gift for someone special.

Paint and Party: Barns: Imagine walking into a workshop having never painted in your life and leaving with a painting of a barn that you can be proud of either to hang on your wall or give as a gift. Raney Rogers, in a 2 hour session on Wednesday, Nov. 5 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. will walk you through it and you’ll be amazed at how easily it all came together when you’re finished!

These workshops and several others are part of the Watauga County Arts Council’s Fall Art Education Series…..and complete information is available at the Blue Ridge ArtSpace (377 Shadowline Drive in Boone) or by going to www.watauga-arts.org and clicking the workshop link.
