WAC Christmas Card Design Competition Winner Announced; Steven Newhouse’s ASU Snowman Wins

Oct. 31, 2012. The Watauga County Arts Council has started a new tradition. This year they held their first annual Christmas Card Design Competition, an opportunity for local artists to showcase their creativity by designing a unique holiday card. Artists submitted their designs and the final design was chosen through a “people’s choice” selection process. The packages of cards with the winning design will be available for purchase for the first time on Nov. 2 at the monthly Gallery Reception and will continue to be available as long as supplies last.

The final award-winning design was submitted by Steven Newhouse and is a real treat for ASU fans since it features a snowman with a flourish of Mountaineer spirit. The design has the added bonus of being less holiday specific and more seasonally specific so it could continue to be used past the holiday season and throughout the winter.

The Arts Council anticipates that these cards will quickly become a collector’s item since there will be a very limited production of these unique designs. Packages of the cards will be available for purchase at the Watauga County Arts Council’s Gallery and other venues around the High Country.

The Gallery and Gift Shop is open every Friday and Saturday from noon – 6 p.m. and 3-6 p.m. on Sundays. On weekdays, hours vary according to when staff is available (which is most weekdays now since the main business office of the Arts Council has been recently relocated to the gallery).
