While Friday, Oct. 14 is listed as the last day to register to vote for the general election during Election Day, note that same-day registration is available during the early-voting or one-stop period.

A Fourth Circuit of Appeals ruling this summer struck down the Voter ID law that eliminated same-day registration and out-of-precinct voting. Now all of the Voter ID law requirements are out the window.

So if you don’t plan on registering to vote by Friday, vote early and bring the property identification. Absentee voting by mail is also available. The last day to request a mail-in ballot is Nov. 1.

According to NCVoterGuide.org, your identifying document must be one of the following:

  • a NC driver’s license
  • photo ID from a government agency
  • student photo ID with a school document showing the student’s address or
  • a utility bill, bank statement, payroll stub, or document from any government agency with your name and current address
  • and more

To register to vote, you must be 18 years old by the time of the general election, live at address for at least 30 days prior to date of election and not be serving a felony conviction, including probation and parole, according to NCVoterGuide.org.

If you need to check your registration status, click here to the State Board of Elections website. Below are the early voting times and locations.
