Vintage Valle Music to Host CreekSide Grass, Burnett Sisters, Turkey Tracks Trio on Sunday

What a great summer of music the community has enjoyed at this year’s Vintage Valle Music get-togethers! Now, as summer winds down, Baird’s Creek Presbyterian Church looks forward to its grand finale on Sunday with exciting music from Creekside GrassThe Burnett Sisters and the Turkey Tracks Trio.

Music kicks off at 4 p.m. and won’t slow down until 6 p.m., just in time for you to get home for supper. As always there’s no charge for this afternoon of community music. However, in the spirit of neighborliness, if you’d like to bring some classroom supplies to share with Valle Crucis and Cove Creek Schools, the church will be most appreciative.

CreekSide Grass

Four years ago, Creekside Grass was one of BCPC’s first musical neighbors to entertain Vintage Valle Music folks with their heartfelt bluegrass gospel music. They came back the next year by popular demand but had to miss last year because of illness. Members Charlie Taylor (guitar and vocals), B.J. Taylor (vocals), Tim Lewis, (banjo), Dwayne Eller (dobro), Blake Vance (mandolin) and J.M. Trivette (upright bass) have had a full summer of pickin’ and singin’ around the High Country, and the church’s grateful audience eagerly awaits their return.

A late addition to last year’s Vintage Valle Music, The Burnett Sisters, along with their proud mom and pop, were a pleasant surprise, and folks around here urged them to come back in 2015. Fiddling is their strong suit, a favorite for High Country audiences who’ll gather from Watauga, Ashe, Avery, Wilkes and Johnson Counties and from as far away as Charlotte to listen in awe to these talented young ladies.

No musical season at Baird’s Creek Presbyterian Church will be complete without a visit from the Turkey Tracks Trio.  Appropriately billed on the back-to-school edition of Vintage Valle Music, Turkey Tracks Trio – two teachers, Jennifer Gillenwater and Mary Mays, and volunteer librarian Linda Miller, from Mountain City – will entertain us with a comfortable mix of old-timey, original and familiar country, bluegrass, gospel and folk songs played on a variety of traditional mountain instruments. This lively group has a CD available for purchase after the show.

Baird’s Creek Presbyterian Church is located at 2147 N.C. Hwy 194 South in Vilas, just two miles west of 194’s intersection with U.S. 321 in Vilas. If you’re coming from south of the church, it’s just two miles north of the Original Mast General Store in Valle Crucis.

Classroom supplies being collected Sunday include: facial tissues, hand sanitizer, paper towels, liquid hand soap, Clorox/Lysol wipes, adhesive bandages, zipper locking bags (gallon and sandwich sizes), cups, plates and napkins.
