Vintage Valle Music Concert Series Kicks Off June 16 at Baird’s Creek Church With Talented Local Artists

By Erika Giovanetti

June 5, 2013. This Father’s Day marks the opening performances in the Vintage Valle Music Concert Series for the summer 2013 season. The event, held by Baird’s Creek Presbyterian Church, is a good opportunity to join your neighbors and listen to some good old fashioned music.

The concert series is held on the third Sunday of every summer month (June, July, and August) from 4 to 6 p.m., with the possibility of continuing to a later time. Each evening features 2, 3 or more local artists of genres ranging from Gospel and bluegrass to folk and sing-along.

Baird's Creek Presbyterian ChurchOn June 16, the series features a variety of talented musicians, some with familiar faces. The BrassDivas are a sing-along group playing Gospel songs and American favorites, while Tommy Brown spins far-reaching Jack Tales in his performance.

New this year is local favorite, singer/guitarist Brian Swanson. Back again is the multitalented soloist, Sarah McGuire, occasionally accompanied by her father Mark on the guitar. McGuire is a student at Lees-McCrae College, bringing her musical gift to the Valle for this performance.

This month, Baird’s Creek Presbyterian Church holds a food drive for the local Hunger & Health Coalition. They’re collecting non-perishable items such as canned fruits and vegetables, jars of peanut butter, rice, beans, cereal, and more to help alleviate hunger in our area.

The music series is free to attend and only requires casual dress. The event is indoors, and there will be no food or preaching–just neighborly pickin’ and grinnin’.

The series takes place at Baird’s Creek Presbyterian Church, 2147 N.C. 194 South in Vilas. For more information, contact Jinx Miller at jinx.alumni.ufl.edu.
