Vintage Valle Music Aug. 21: Folk & Dagger, Turkey Tracks Trio, Junaluska Gospel Choir

Another great summer of Vintage Valle Music is winding down, and we are looking forward to an exciting closing get-together on August 21, 2016. All entertainers, popular local artists, are returning “regulars” in this series: Doris Bazzini & ColinCrothers, Turkey Tracks Trio, and the Junaluska Gospel Choir! Music kicks off at 4 p.m. and won’t slow down until 6 p.m., just in time for you to get home for supper. As always there’s no charge for this afternoon of community music. However, in the spirit of neighborliness, if you’d like to bring some classroom supplies to share with Valle Crucis and Cove Creek Schools, we’ll be most appreciative.

First on the bill is the duo of Doris Bazzini and Colin Crothers of Folk & Dagger. Doris will be introducing her original songs from her newest CD, All Things Beautiful. As with her two earlier projects, much of the recorded material of this talented singer/songwriter is based on favorite Psalms. The CD will be available for purchase at the event. No Vintage Valle Music summer will be complete without an appearance of our homegrown favorites, Turkey Tracks Trio. Three neighbors from nearby Mountain City, TN, Jennifer Gillenwater, Mary Mays, and Linda Miller, present a lively mix of mountain folk, old-time country, bluegrass, and gospel music sure to please every taste. This popular group will also have for sale copies of their newest CD, You’ve Been That Friend to Me. This is a fan’s uploaded recording of one of this talented group’s live performances:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fx0ak2CTpAI&list=PLAzRq3p1sT2wTYfFNDaasXlM7xRbdycJ1&index=2

Vintage Valle Music’s 2016 grand finale is a dynamic performance by the JunaluskaGospel Choir! A community choir comprised primarily of members of the Boone Mennonite Brethren Church, the Junaluska Gospel Choir is led by DannyWhittington and includes some of the area’s best rhythm and blues musicians. Danny describes their music as “Black Gospel leaning toward the blues.” In 2014, the choir released their first CD, Rough Side of the Mountain, a toe-tapping, uplifting sample of the group’s exciting performances. Copies will be available at their Vintage Valle Music performance.

All performers generously share their talents with our community, and there’s no admission charge, no passing the hat, not collection basket at the exit. As is the custom at Vintage Valle Music, this month, we are collecting classroom supplies for our Western Watauga County schools. Suggested items include facial tissues, hand sanitizer, paper towels, liquid hand soap, disinfectant wipes, adhesive bandages, zipper-locking bags (gallon and sandwich sizes), and disposable cups, plates, and napkins.

Baird’s Creek Presbyterian Church is located at 2147 NC Hwy 194 South, Vilas NC 28692. That’s 2 miles west of 194’s intersection with US 321 in Vilas, or, if you’re coming from south of our church, it’s just 2 miles north of Valle Crucis’ Original Mast General Store.
