Blowing Rock, North Carolina (December 11, 2017) At its December 7, 2017 meeting, the Board of Directors of the Village Foundation of Blowing Rock approved two Grant Requests submitted in the fourth quarter of 2017.
The first Grant approved will provide continued funding to the Town of Blowing Rock for winter lighting on Main Street and in Memorial Park. Winter lighting in Blowing Rock has become a feature of the winter season and an attraction for visitors. This Grant will permit expansion and enhancement of this winter attraction.
The second Grant approved will provide funding to the Blowing Rock Garden Club to enable the club to enter Blowing Rock in the “America in Bloom” competition among small towns in America. The funding for this project is a collaboration between the Garden Club, The Village Foundation, the Town of Blowing Rock, the Tourism Development Authority and the Chamber of Commerce. The Board wished the Garden Club the best of luck in the competition.
The Village Foundation welcomed Michael Gray to the Foundation Board of Directors. Mr. Gray and his wife, Mary Bost Gray, live in Blowing Rock and Vero Beach, Florida, and have been active in Blowing Rock civic affairs for many years. The Foundation also welcomed Charlie Sellers, Blowing Rock’s new mayor, to the Board as a non-voting, ex-officio member, and David Barker, the new Chamber Chairman of the Board, as an ex-officio member.
In other action, the Foundation announced that the following officers will serve in 2018: Jim Clabough, President; Jim Pitts, Vice President; and Cathy Robbins, Secretary/Treasurer. John Aldridge and Kent Tarbutton will join these officers to form the Foundation Executive Committee in 2018.
