Veteran’s Day is Tuesday, Nov. 11; Check Out Our Listing of Community of Events Commemorating Veterans

Nov. 4, 2014. Tuesday, Nov. 11 is Veterans Day, when people all around the United States will take the time to honor and thank service members who have served, or are currently serving, the country. In the High Country, there will be many events to commemorate this occasion, and many special deals for Veterans to enjoy on their special day.

Events

The Boone Mall, located at 1180 Blowing Rock Rd, will host the annual Veterans Day Event at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 11. At center court, the Watauga Community Band will play live music and guests will get a chance to listen to live keynote speakers who will commemorate the day. Music will be performed by the Community Band before the program commencement, and following the program, the Marine Corps JROTC and Watauga County High SChool will perform color guard routines. Wilkes Community College will host a Veterans Day Ceremony beginning at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11. The ceremony will take place on the front lawn of Thompson Hall to honor all who served.

Appalachian State University will host a Veterans Day ceremony Tuesday, Nov. 11, beginning at 7:30 a.m. The ceremony will be held at the Veterans Memorial located on the west side of Dougherty Administration Building. A continental breakfast will follow in the Dougherty Administration Building lobby. The public is invited.

Ashe County Schools will host several Veteran’s Day Programs this week. Ashe County Middle School will host a program on Nov. 7 at 9:30 a.m.; Mountain View Elementary School will hold a program on Nov. 10, at 8:30 p.m.; Westwood Elementary School will hold a program on Nov. 10, at 10 a.m.; Ashe County High School will host a program on Nov. 10, at 2:30 p.m.; and Blue Ridge Elementary will host a program on Nov. 10, at 1:30 p.m.
