June 14, 2013. Valle Crucis Community Park (VCCM) is holding a new fundraiser called Rootsfest this Saturday, June 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Food, arts and craft vendors, children’s activities and town history will be provided by various members and companies of the High Country.

The festival takes place in the park and will raise funds for preserving parts of the park that citizens of Valle Crucis and beyond enjoy. Soccer fields, playgrounds, picnic shelters, a summer concert series, exercise fitness program and river access are among the many activities that the park provides.

Children’s activities planned for the festival include a bounce house and castle, an inflatable slide, a face painter, a 3-legged-race, a pie eating contest and Apple Hill Farm is bringing in some of their Alpacas.

Confirmed vendors for the event include The Stool Shed, Daffodil Corner, Apple Hill Farm, Joy Dawn Arts, Appalachian Shed, Laurel Gordon, Original Creations Stained Glass, Hen’s Tooth Acres, Little Grass Ship Designs, Alice Vines, Amber Shoemake, MICA Art, Buster’s Burnables and Running Cedar Quilting. Vendors will demonstrate their handmade crafts to viewers at the festival.

“We’ve have ASU Archeology Department there to talk about some of the Native American History in the area,” said Gandy.

The festival also hosts the Weldwood Intertribal Native American Old Society which was formed to preserve, protect and enhance the heritage and culture of Old Society Culture. For more information on the Weldwood, click here.
